The sad shell and empty windows that is Nymans House and gardens set in the High Weald just outside the town of Handcross in West Sussex, England. Transformed into a gothic mansion in the late 1920's disaster struck in 1947 when the building was extensively damaged by fire. A small part of the house is still inhabitable, and open to the public, but most of the south east facing side of the large house is just a beautiful ruin. Set in 600 acres of picturesque and landscaped gardens it is now owned by the English National Trust and open to the public.

une belle façade avec sa végétation luxuriante et ses topiaires. Les fenêtres vides créent un effet de surprise, au premier abord, j'ai cru à des reflets. Une très belle photo.

A pity that the government not restored this nice house, really in the old style.
I like these old architecture with all the open windows and green hedges in foreground.
Composition and presentation be superb.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

a Gothic Mansion....yeah...I want one of those!
its strange to see the grounds are still attended to and take care of so well - yet the building is in ruins, such a contrast.
love the bright vivid light and colors, it jumping off of the screen. As the Ausie's say, its a cracker of a photo :)

instead of the sky being reflected in the windows here it is framed inside the windows! Clever trick! Definitely not double glazed! though the missing roof suggests there may have been quite a party there once!
As always an immaculately taken and presented image.

Hello Brian - This may be a ruin but it still retains an elegance and charm. Gorgeous colours and the perfect sky makes a special appearance!

To see a picture like this, I often wonder if ruins are more beautiful than intact buildings. This is certainly a vote for the ruins, the fact that we can see the blue sky through the frames makes this an enchanting and magical place. The disaster that befalls these places seems so common, but its great to see its still open. The two bushes in front look like two Muppets having a conversation. I love this place and am really pleased to have learned of it through your gallery.
All the best

Hello brian, At first I thought that there is sky reflected in the windows, but after reading your note I see that there are just windows with no wall behind them. The walls seem in quite good condition. How strange. Interesting green "sculptures"

Malgré les destructions, cette façade reste très élégante. Tu en as réalisé une excellente photo, lumineuse, colorée et aux très belles couleurs.
