The Cathedral Church of Our Lady & St Philip Howard is the Roman Catholic Cathedral set on a hill in the heart of the town of Arundel in West Sussex, England. This is a view up one of the cobbled streets that wend their way up to the cathedral from the River Arun that runs through the centre of the town.

fantastic shot! I like the POV very much - it gives me impression of actually walking to this scene myself. Pretty cobbles in the foreground give the image point of reference and set up good contrast for the beautifully lit buildings. The lamp post on the left adds some more charm to this picture.
Amazing architecture and very well captured and presented with excellent colors and sharpness. The light is splendid.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice Sunday!

Another shot with spectacular lighting! I like the point of view and the use of the vertical frame to create an interesting layered effect. Lovely warm colours and superb clarity. I hope you are also enjoying some better weather today, here it is sunny and bright and no wind or rain! Have a pleasant Sunday whatever.

Hello Brian, very nice image here, maybe it's the best i've seen today. Nice colors on the composition. Even though the cathedral is the main focus, i was attracted by the red walls on the right too. Good details on the walls. Well done.

nopn ne sbagli una!.
Complimenti anche per questa straordinaria foto alla quale i toni cupi ed i colori saturi si addicono a meraviglia.
Eccellente la composizione e sempre da rimarcare la nitidezza e la gestione della luce.
Ciao e buona domenica

This is another stunning photograph from your neck of the woods, beautifully presented and with the most wonderful light which you have managed exceedingly well.
Indeed, the light on the faces of the buildings is glorious and bright, bringing out all the wonderful textures and features of stone and brickwork while the cobbled street in the foreground is in quite deep shade. Yet we can still see full details in the deepest shadows and also in the brightest parts of the image.
Gorgeous colours, perfect exposure and processing work and, as always, stunning details and clarity.

How are you good sir? Taking into account your last note, and the ever so slightly exposed spire I can make out from behind the lamp post, I count 11 of them all together...not to mention that each visible window of the church is divided into four frames. Eek!! Perhaps the fact this is a church will override any of those creepy superstitions?? :) Or was it just time to come in from prowling the beaches for those bikini's that you were feeling guilty and needed some repentance? hehe
Love how you've balanced each side of the frame with a vertical element, bolstering a strong composition to begin with. This is some kind of divine light too...appropriate I suppose, right? Having it highlight the cathedral with the darker portions along the top and bottom pulls the focus right to center point, but still allows for plenty of peripheral detail and interest. This has a terrific atmosphere attached to it, well done once again! Enjoy the new week. Take it easy.
Cheers from the the far West,
If everything stands true to form, we have a heat uptick that will hopefully work the same path over the Atlantic to you rain soaked folk.

macjake (54240) 2014-02-16 23:07
such an elegant and beautiful photo.
the lighting is just perfect. love how the top portions are dark, as is the very bottom, yet the light strikes your subjects as if a light source was placed on them in the middle areas.
its somehow magical :)
stunning, one of your best.

Hi Brain - I think the low key approach to this shot works very well. The light with its contrasts across the image is attractive and your composition captures an impression of depth through the layers and light. I hope you have a storm free, dry week ahead! Rosemary

Sharpness, management of light, (magnificent saturated) colors, vertical format, chosen pov and composition are all outstanding photo qualities that I truly enjoyed!

Very beautiful, not just the light, colours and architecture, but also the composition! I like the silhouette of the lamp and the low pov, putting the pavement in foreground. Very well thought, it really works!
