A view of Arundel Castle as seen from the River Arun. The picture was taken more than 30 years ago, but I imagine the view looks much the same. No doubt Brian Denton (timecapturer) can tell us.
Arundel Castle is a restored medieval castle in Arundel, West Sussex, England. It was established by Roger de Montgomery on Christmas Day 1067. Roger became the first to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries.
From the 11th century onward, the castle has served as a hereditary stately home and has been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 400 years. It is still the principal seat of the Norfolk family. It is a Grade I listed building.
The original picture was taken on slide film. It has been digitised and cleaned up as far as possible using Photoshop. Apologies for any remaining imperfections.

Very nice composition with those three layers: the port, the forest and the background castle. Well taken, enjoy a good week ahead.

This is a beautiful composition, and as the castle peeps through the trees like this, it seems like something straight from the pages of a fairy tale. The colors are soft and very appealing, while the foreground has excellent interest with the boats and the lovely green blue water. Beautiful shot, and the first time I have seen this famous place from this angle.
All the best

this is wonderful, especially as it is somewhere that I have been several times in the last few months. The river looks very high in this irresistible shot. The castle looks unchanged, but I think a few of the trees may well have gone, I think a few were felled by the great storm of 1987. A superb transition into digital and a fascinating look back in time. Thanks for sharing it - I love it!
Have a good week - B.

De mieux en mieux tes scans.Pour celui-ci les couleurs sont beaucoup mieux que la veille.Le point de vue sur le château était excellent avec tous ces bateaux d'une autre époque à l'avant plan.

Nicely hidden castle in the green.
Good frame and curious colors.

An impressive castle dominating the skyline over the small marina and forest, Stephen.
Beautiful the many turrets it has, and nicely managerd a picture combined with the boats on FG.
A well scanned photo, would be interesting to see a contemporary view of the same place.

I didn't realise how close this castle was to the water, having only seen it via Brian's choice of view.
It is a most attractive composition, the boats creating a diagonal lead line towards the castle, which appears, like some fairytale building, from the depth of the trees.
I would imagine that only the style of cars and boats will have changed between then and now!!
My warm regards,

qui abbiamo superato i 30 anni, ma sembra ancora molto giovane.
Bella inquadratura, il castello sbuca imponente tra gli alberi e domina il fiume.

Hello Stephen - The River Arun is a river that I have become aware of through Brian's shots and it was quite a surprise to see this post from you. I think you have done a good job on scanning this, there is a slight green tinge at the top of the castle but it doesn't spoil my enjoyment of the shot. Looks like a perfect summer's day for messing about on the river! The castle looks magnificent as it stand enclosed by the forest but towering over the landscape. Fascinating... time to do a before and after! Warm regards rosemary
