Monument to Earl Grey (person not the tea) stands in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne. The whole area is known under this simple name: MONUMENT. I have presented it from a distance so those of you who are curious can click here to have a look at it. You can also read there more about the Earl Grey both tea and the person.
What I really liked here was the perspective which made the base of the monument in the context of the other buildings to appear as if it was disproportionately big. I liked also the light on that day. It was strong but not harsh allowing seeing the colours. In this light everything looks beautiful. The major challenge here was to capture people in some nice poses: I did not have enough patience to create something interesting in this respect.
If you click on photos from Newcastle Upon Tyne above you may notice that there are just 76 but this is because most people put the city under county Northumberland instead of Tyne and Wear where it belongs.

learning about the world, I never knew there was a person called Earl Grey, and my first thought was exactly that, a monument to tea?? haha, very good to learn something new today. It sure is an imposing monument, and I like how the people in the scene are all chilled out relaxing all around it. The building to the left is a beautiful piece of architecture too. YOu got such perfect light on the whole scene, really nicely done!
All the best

wonderful everyday shot of this wonderful part of NUT. Superb contrast of architectural styles and heritage and proof that this year summer did arrive. Gloriously sharp and beautifully detailed image, captures the atmosphere of this place succinctly.
Have a great weekend - regards Brian.

J'aime beaucoup ton rendu de l'animation sur cette belle place anglaise. L'architecture est superbe sous cette lumière qui fait ressortir très nettement les détails. Tout le monde jouit du beau temps.

A great place for people watching and sun tanning but this place also offers plenty of photo opportunity to make. Street people provide a colourful visual aspect to our often grey surroundings, and actually they are a true gift as they welcome attention, so by adding these colourful people to a street scene photograph gives it a social commentary and allows a story to be formed in the viewers mind. And placing the figures in the frame can also add many different nuances and narratives to this image. It is such a fascinating feature of our daily urban lives but also because it is such an entertaining experience as I have experienced. The woman in black catches the attentions straight away!!
Well done shot thanks for sharing.

as I alway follow the newly posted photo, it attracted my vision. A good catch. Nice and colourful. Foreground is filled with the people which gave a nice depth to it. A nice architecture shot, really worth seeing composition. Thanks for sharing it, Mariusz.

Hello Mariusz, there is a lot to enjoy in this nicely composed shot, not least the interesting architectural features of the BG buildings which are bathed in a lovely light.
The people are pretty nicely dotted around, all doing their own thing.
A lovely shot with an entertaining note.
Kind regards Les.

Like me, you are a cartophile and also obsessive about getting place names and locations correct! You have also written a very interesting and informative note and I well remember the picture to which you have added a link - your previous photograph "Earl Grey".
This, more recent, picture has indeed been taken in the most lovely light which, as you say, is bright but not at all harsh. You have managed the light exceedingly well and the colours and contrasts are divine. You have also managed to include many people and it is interesting to watch all their various activities.
Your composition is excellent, the exposure spot-on and the details and sharpness, as always, are exquisite.

I see two main subjects here, mariusz: The people around the big statue on the square, and the fine archi.-details we see around.
A marvelous style on the building on left, with the clock atop.
Than, I tried to view the faces of the people sit and enjoy a sunny day out.
Fine taken photo, wide POV that include many elements on.
Enjoy your weekend,

An amazing composition by the enormous proportions of the monument, the size of the pedestal, gives an idea of its proportions, people puts a lively twist on the square, with all of them sitting in the sun.
The building we see in the background is great, with a wonderful architecture full of beautiful details.
A very nice day, which gives a fantastic colorful.
Good management of light and shadows, sharpness is also optimal.
I wish you a good week.

I remember this Monument in another photo of yours.
In this framing you center our attention on the people in the square, enjoying a sunny day, and specially on the wonderful mixture of architectural styles in this place.
The blue sky and the great light provide a high quality to your composition.
A beautiful work, my friend.

A tea monument and you cut his head, good to present it complete in the WS
I understand your point of view, create perspective and contrast with the buildings at the back in special the original one on the left the one with the clock on the top
Good plenty of live capture ( not so much in your gallery)
Answer your note about the feathers
macjake (45844) 2013-09-06 22:34
you made a strong point about the perspective, and i didn't really notice it on my own! whats wrong with me! haha
but you're 100% correct, the base of the monument does appear to be larger than life, infact it looks as large as the building in the bg!
wicked light, but for me that building in the bg left is stealing the show...lets see more of that!!
always great to see more pics from you

danos (78348) 2013-10-01 8:25
nice to see the foot of the monument with the other building to complete the whole image about the place.A WS would was more informative about the place with the whole monument to was in the frame.
