Tovarishch at race start (I) Photo

Photographer’s Note

One of the first pictures of the Ukrainian three-masted bark Tovarishch taken during this 1993 Tall Ships' Race: her at the start of the race near Newcastle. I will post another one tomorrow.
In workshop, two other pictures of smaller ships also taken at the race (both reframed: I used to make strange framings at that time...).

PS: My post-processing of last month's pictures taken during the Tall Ships' Atlantic Challenge 2009 (race 2 Tenerife-Bermuda) is progressing, but slowly: I am still in Tenerife (as far as the pictures are concerned, of course)!

Celle-ci est particulièrement belle. j'aime le cadrage large que tu as choisi et qui montre ainsi ce magnifique voilier dans son élément. La couleur du bateau ressort très bien sous ce ciel chargé et dans cette belle mer. Excellent travail.

The centered composition fills very well the photo and the exposure is great.
THe light illuminates everything very well and the clouddy and menacing sky looks impressive.

pas mal comme prise. Tu étais sur quel bateau pour cela ?
Tu as abusé un chouille de la netteté et sans doute du logiciel qui atténue un peu, je sais plus comment il s'appelle... La mer semble très lissée.
Sinon, les teintes et l'ensemble est très pictural comme résultat avec un beau ciel pour naviguer.

You still in Canarias islands... Well, I visited Gran Canaria and Lanzarote in 2007, but in cruise ship.
I like this image, excellent captured of the Tovarishch sailing open sea. Excellent colors, very good sharpness.

Je crois que je préfère encore cette version rectangulaire à celle que j'ai commentée hier. Merci de ton passage sur mon image du Cap d'Agde et de ton commentaire que je partage. Comme toi je préfère les vieux gréements aux voiliers modernes et rien n'est plus beau pour la bretonne que je suis qu'une belle marine bien photographiée.

Bonjour Emmanuel,

Un superbe scan je trouve avec un traitement de l'image qui donne un aspect peinture très agréable à cette photo. Le ciel chargé fait bien ressortir la lumière sur le vieux grément et le met bien en valeur. Il semble fendre les mers... Très joli coup d'oeil et merci pour les photos complémentaires où l'on constate qu'il n'est pas le seul sur l'eau !!!

Am a bit late in catching up with you! How was your long trip? This is an old post...the quality of the scan is superb anyway, with the contrast between the white of the ship & green water, under the cloudy sky. Is that the flag of Ukraine she's flying?

je l'aime bien celle-là, une prise de vue plus éloignée, un peu inhabituelle, bien exposée et qui me fait admirer un ciel comme je les aime même si il est plombé.
