It started like this...
Hi,can anyone advise how good a view you get of the Red Deer Rut at
Minsmere ? Best places for photography is what I am after.I realise such animals in this season need much respect, and I am not the type to cause disturbance for my own gain, but there is little point trying to get photos from a great distance,so any advice regarding the Red Deer at Minsmere would be great.
Three methods (Paste the lat long into google maps)
Go to their viewing spot that they staff with a caravan - This is found on the south side of the Westleton to Dunwich road, about 300metres after the sharp left hand turn (52.26909625751508, 1.5994817018508911). Park 300 yds further on on left of Westleton Dunwich Road and walk back (52.26931620293084, 1.6037839651107788).
Rangers and volunteers most helpful.
Start of the footpath (52.26909625751508, 1.5994817018508911) looking over the fields (now actually heath reversion)
can give good views You can also walk down this footpath, and you will come out at the RSPB "official" viewing spot.
good views can be obtained through the trees on occasion from the northern road that goes down to Minsmere, the continuation of Mill road out of Westleton. Deer are often in the fields to the South, but I've never seen them rut here, only to the north.
I think they are again running 4x4 close up trips this year, for a modest fee, great for photographer's.
And here is the result, negative side had to get their very early and a very bumpy ride in a 4x4, but I thought well worth it.

A very interesting and useful note and well worth bearing in mind if I am ever in that area in the rutting season!
This is a splendid capture of this red deer stag, perfectly clear and sharp against a nicely out of focus background. When seen at larger size, I can see a good catchlight in the deer's eye and that is lovely.
Gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.

Hello Ike, Woow, what a view! Fantastic shot, and fortunately bloodless. I am sure that many hunters would like to have the guy as a trophy.
I have never seen a wild red deer so close. Stunnung capture.
Warm regrads MAlgo
