A fantastic orange sunset setting over Ipswich docks.
This light always brings back memories of cocktail hour in Rhodesia when I was a child, I use to think when I saw the grownups sipping their cocktails one day I will partake.
The dock today,
There are a number of activities around of the dock area including:
The Jerwood Dance Centre (on the ground floor of 'The Mill' - a 23 story 'landmark' building)
The Old Custom House (grade II listed with a new conference centre on the ground floor and the offices of the Ipswich Port Authority above)
Salthouse Harbour Hotel
The University Campus Suffolk
Holy Trinity Church
The 'Orwell Lady' runs excursions within the Orwell Estuary from the waterfront
A variety of restaurants and bars
National Cycle Route 1and National Cycle Route 51 pass along the waterfront. Ipswich Waterfront Action (previously known as the Ipswich Waterfront Community Group) has been working for a friendly, thriving and vibrant community on the Ipswich Waterfront since 2007.
The Port of Ipswich
The dock is owned by Associated British Ports who operate both the 'West Bank' terminal (to the west of the New Cut) and 'Cliff Quay' (to the east of the Orwell). West Bank has two transit sheds totalling 6,377 sq m, plus areas available for open storage and operates a ro-ro service. Cliff Quay handles and stores liquid and dry bulks with 89,000 cu m of petrochemical storage tanks and has 67,583 sq m of covered storage and additional open storage. There is a twice daily freight ferry service linking Ipswich with the Port of Ostend and a regular service from Ipswich to Wilhelmshaven. The container terminal is equipped to handle all types of containers and can also accept out-of-gauge and heavy lift cargoes and is equipped to accommodate short to mid-sea operations.
There is also the Neptune Marine with mooring for 250 private boats, a chandler and two boat builders (Fairline Yachts and Spirit Yachts).

Beautiful sunset photo. Excellent exposing for the sky has nicely captured the colors of the sunset and made a good silhouette of the trees and hills.
Very well done.
Wish you a very nice rest of the week.

Glorious sun set photo. Though we cannot see the sun, from the magical colour of the sky we can understand it has just left for the day. Good use of the panoramic format to show the extent of the busy dock. Excellent photo with natural colours and light. Thanks for sharing.

Good evening Iain,
Cropped efficiently to place the main subject on equally halved image, between the real view and its mirror.
Superb sharp details, and view through the darkening marina surrounding is appreciated, inspite the backlight of the sunset golden tone.
Cheers, and stay in the dry, we saw the weather situation in England on the TV news.

Love the colors and the mirror effect.
Seems however lacking a bit of space at the top and bottom.

truly magical moment captured here!
Every sunset/sunrise is unique spectacle,so we never know what it brings. But this one is one of the most beautiful sunsets I´ve ever seen.
And also the scenery for this "spectacle" is magnificent-boats,yachts and so lovely reflections.
Have a nice day

My first impression is how wonderful the colours look, as they wrap around the scene. There is a real desire to see this as something different to the reality, a long spiky caterpillar, the head of a crocodile with a spiky face ...! I find it a fascinating shot and one that I would have loved to photograph, too!
Have a great day,

I like the wide angled panoramic framing in this superb sunset and the repetitive reflections of yacht masts. Good sharpness and a nice capture of a tranquil mood. I hear the weather in the UK has been wild of late. Good shadow detail and nice graphism and partial silhouettes. Tfs!

Well the "soak" that I am says cocktail hour, damn the orange juice ;) I love those dusky pink tones and the hints of orange. The symmetry is beautiful and the stillness of the water is mesmerising. I like the panoramic cut too, which allows us to focus on the beautiful pinks and oranges, aswell as the yachts in reflection. Excellent work, I can imagine sitting back with a nice cold drink and soaking in the view.
