Photographer's Note

The River Alde at the Maltings is a haven for birdlife with its expansive estuary. Being tidal it’s a place of glistening mud and shallow open water, filled twice a day by the incoming tide and rich in wildlife during migrating months.
There is a choice of walks with varying distances:

This walk to explore the landscape and wildlife of the beautiful River Alde valley. You’ll discover an extraordinary estuary, amazing marshes and a heavenly heath. Enjoy the landscape we see today which has been shaped by centuries of human activity and see some of the wildlife that lives in this special place.

A walk in the footsteps of St Botolph

The walk to St Botolph’s Church Iken is along the tranquil southern shore of the River Alde. This ancient landscape has some amazing wildlife along the river. This return walk is approximately 4.6 miles.
