Photographer’s Note

The main reason for being in Sheffield on Saturday was to see 'The Guild' at the Leadmill.

The centre of gravity of the UK rock industry has been moving East across northern England for years. In the '60s it was Liverpool, the '70s and '80s in Manchester, and since the '90s Sheffield has been taking over, and with the sudden fame of 'The Arctic Monkeys', very much the place to be.

The Leadmill is the one of the city's main showcases for up and coming new bands. The next few shots are from last Saturdays gig there, starting with with 'The Guild'

Looks like the singer of Greenday to me. Hey, Richard, this one has good zing. I like the moddy look of this shot. Simplicity but not simple. Theres a great emotional undercurrent here.

well, initially i was kind of disappointed but then i watched more carefully and discovered the beauty of minimalism that prevails here: simple colours, clear composition;
and then i realized that the full happiness would be if the two light spots were visible in full;

So you went for more arm? I think it works alright, seeing it here..as I mentioned yesterday, its good to see that he is also strumming a guitar...

I think the sweat adds a nice grainy texture, which makes the image resemble pop art. The light behind the microphone is nicely placed.

Always happy to know whats going on in Sheffield, so keep the facts coming...

Nice live shot, it reminds of so many nights :o) I don't know The Guild, but will look into it. However The Artic Monkeys have been impossible to avoid, not that i wanted to. The light is great here and it makes the image very intense.

Hi Richard, you definitely have a gift for concert shots (I well remember your excellent series in that large outdoor do last year...)
Nice use of color toi emphasize and delineate the shapes here.
