Photographer’s Note

The Circus in Bath is a fine example of Georgian architecture designed in 1754 by the architect John Wood the Elder. He died after designing the Circus which was then completed by his son. The scheme was commenced in 1754 and completed in 1768.

You've obviously worked very hard to exclude the cars which are always parked in front of the houses, so I think I would have cropped out the last bit of evidence on the right hand side.
I like the way you have captured the sweeping lines of the buildings and the repetition of form in the stonework and balconies.
There is a slight problem with the entire image apparently sloping back from bottom to top which is slightly off putting, but understanding the difficulties in trying to capture the essence of the buildings I can forgive that :-)

Hello Colin,

The great German physicist Werner Heisenberg once observed, "Never underestimate how much pleasure it gives a man to see/hear what he already knows!" So it is for me. I know the fabulous crescents of Bath well, and this particular one I've walked a number of times. This is an entirely under appreciated photograph, and a month after you posted it, I am very happy to discover it. The smooth curves made by the townhouses curve away and converge into the horizon; in the distance a pair of individuals exchange banter over a fence, with a ubiquitous dog in view. Fabulous shot,
