Good Morning Everyone,
This is Castle Gates House, a beautiful, old house, built, not surprisingly, close to Shrewsbury Castle.
It was built in the early 16th century with a timbered frame.
I cannot find much history connected with the house other than it is a listed building and was originally built on Dogpole. It was moved to its present position c1702 by the Earl of Bradford, its original site being developed with what is now the Guildhall.
Shrewbury Town was a real delight to explore. It has a wealth of really old buildings mingling comfortably with the new developments.
My good wishes to you, from a surprisingly bright and tranquil N.W. England, Bev :-)

this is very interesting building and it would stop me on the street as well. The walls seem to be old but well kept and I like all the warm colors contrasting with blue sky. Some bush included in the composition adds more color and livens up the picture.

love old places like this, so much wonderful character and a real sense of "if walls could talk". So much history whether good, sad or bad. Amazing timber framing although the wonderful tall chimney looks a tad newer perhaps.
dry here at the moment...........B.

tra le cose che amo di più, ci sono le campagne inglesi e queste architetture, il loro mix è esplosivo, mi piacciono proprio.
Bellissimo questo scorcio, bei dettagli in un'ottima composizione messa in risalto dal taglio verticale.

This is a delightful old building that you have captured from a fine position which includes the blossoming hedge in the foreground and a fair amount of nicely shped clouds. I made a short visit to Shrewsbury but I only have vague memories of fine buildings, although it was just over 47 years ago :-).

Hi Bev, excellent photography of these beautiful, interesting and old buildings typical of the place, nicely captured in this interesting and beautiful image, very good sharpness, light and color. Excellent and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good afternoon and happy rest of the week.
All the best from southern Spain.

An example of very attractive architecture with this half-timbered technique. The chimney is indeed very impressive, did they build such high chimneys of environmental reasons? An easy way to get rid of the smoke? However, here it really balances the picture.

The cloudy weather gave a special texture and color to the half-timber beamed hpouse, Beverly.
Mingle well with its surrounding, yet has an almost 3D view from chosen POV.
House with history interesting to explor.

Ciao cara Beverley
Ciao e buona serata

it is a pity that i haven´t travelled more in England. You have so many interesting old houses and old factories that i would love to see! This house is a good example of what i mean, beautiful! It is a very nice and Sharp shot, captured from an excellent spot.(but it looks a little bit washed-out in my opinion. I would suggest to add 10-15% more contrast) I hope you post more old houses from England in the future, tfs!

now this is an interesting building, just look at the height of that brick built chimney and those lovely pots atop it.
There are so many architectural features to view and enjoy and you have portrayed them ever so well.
Kind regards Les.

I so very much envy the history of Europe...all of these old houses, abbeys, castles etc. amaze me! It would seem to be a never ending supply of photo opportunities, and I love seeing each and every one of 'em. I'm really enjoying the angle you've taken for this shot, the descending heights from left to right is easy to follow from front to back, creating wonderful depth and perspective. The rustic tones and rich textures are well layed out for maximum exposure with this arrangement. This just oozes old world charm, simply beautiful! Enjoy the day ahead.
Friendly and warm wishes,

These kind of old houses are a delight for a photo enthusiast like me (I do not call myself a photographer because I am not one :-)).
The house seems to be in good shape considering its age and the fact that it is made of wood!
Well managed light in tricky situation. Nice nautral colors and good clarity. Beautiful house. Thanks for sharing.

Oh only in England can something be called "Shrewbury Castle"!
I can just hear the conversation now...so where do you live? ....Oh, in Shrewsbury Castle
what stands out for me right away is that large smoke chimney..thats a doozey!
I'm sure this house has lots of history, and if only the walls could talk :)
My only real critique would be that the photo looks a bit 'grey', not sure where thats coming from?
perhaps a tad more contrast is needed? or maybe its just the lighting?
still..a great post, a great subject, and yes, i do love the home - who wouldn't! :)

I'm glad to hear the weather is calm. We are taking stock in Ireland of the storm damage, and it may record as the worst on record. There is a castle about to fall into the sea on the west coast, and that cannot be good!
I love this scene, especially the color, light and of course the subject. Amazing to think this house is so old, and that its managed to be moved from one location to another! You composed the scene in a beautiful way, especially the position of the chimney, and the fact we can see right up the street. Looks like a beautiful place, so thanks for sharing this lovely vision of it.
All the best

Hello Bev - I was just about to upload a WS for this shot when I notice that Boa had already done so. I agree with him and following your discussion I see that you are not partial to 'over-saturated' images and prefer a natural look. Well there is nothing wrong with that at all but here, to my mind, the beauty of the old building is not shown to its best advantage and it's nothing to do with saturation, it's to do with contrast and the need to set a black and white point in your initial PP workflow. The light here is flat so the shot doesn't have any shadow areas but I can see that there would be some blacks in the scene, the downpipe for example. Setting a pixel or two of that as a black already brings the shot to life and brings in some contrast and a fuller range of tones across the architecture. The composition is excellent and this lovely half-timbered building a fine example of its type with a slight tweak in your PP work all the lovely colour shifts and textural details would be more apparent.
Have a lovely weekend.

Fantastic composition of this beautiful castle and original, surprising its facade, wood framing and that great fireplace, which are sure its hallmarks. A beautiful sky in clouds and blue.
A colorful perfect very natural.
A bright image with optimum clarity.
Good job. I love it.
Enjoy a good weekend.
