Good Morning Everyone,
This is the bridge over the River Windrush at Burford. We were exploring the town in the early evening and after walking down High Street, came upon this beautiful stone bridge.
As you can see, some other tourists were observing its charms when we arrived.
The bridge is Medieval. It is a three arch packhorse bridge built in the 15th century. It has been altered by widening since then. However, the bridge is still too narrow to accommodate modern traffic and is, therefore, now controlled by traffic lights.
I wonder what the bridge will look like at the moment! After all the rain that has been experienced in recent months, most areas around here have suffered from rising rivers and flooding.
Have a great w/e, Bev :-)

snap! Both posted ancient bridge shots today and they could not be more different. I suppose tranquillity is the only match, which yours has in abundance. Love the sense of scale here too and what a glorious perspective that looks so beautiful in this warm light. Exquisite!
Have a good weekend - B.

Nice tranquil image of the bridge and the water. The couple make for an interesting observation.

Good morning Bev,
Ah, ha, exploring, eh? Now I wonder where, in this picture, that geocache was? Mmmm, hiding in a crack in the stonework or in the shadow of the people standing in the foreground?
Anyway, a delightful photograph with lovely light and fine strong composition, the diagonal of the bridge leading the eye nicely toward the distant and rather interesting houses. The two ladies standing on the right add foreground interest as well as a good sense of scale. Lovely soft colours, perfect exposure and excellent details too.

Hello Bev - You won't believe it but I have some old family snaps of our family (the children including me) paddling in the River Windrush! This lovely shot is taken very much in my 'neck-of-the-woods' and once again you have succeeded in making me very homesick! Even in this shot the river is high so I too wonder how it has been after all the rain. Being a 'local' I cannot help but love the honey coloured stone of this attractive old bridge. Doesn't it look peaceful? TFS this, a real treat for my eyes. Warm regards Rosemary

A fine perspective on the old bridge; it looks splendid under the evening light. The people admiring it bring the scene to life. I like very much the light and colours and the reflections. Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful picture of very interesting and attractive details!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, slim black borders, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

Hello Beverley ,

Hi Bev - just popping in after a long hiatus from TE, and I'm glad to see everyone's well here... lovely shot of the bridge. Interesting that you wonder about the bridge at high rain; I assumed that this shot WAS during high rains due to the rather shallow depth of the underpasses there.
The two other visitors add a nice presence to the shot as they too contemplate its beauty - thanks!

This is a fairly perfect composition. The interesting old bridge is nicely reflected in the calm water and creates a fine diagonal. We catch a glimpse of some nice looking houses in the background and the area is beautifully surrounded by trees. The warm light is wonderful, but of course the icing on the cake are the two women who add life, colours and balance. Even the most beautiful medieval bridge benefits from human presence.

Also on that day in August there was already much water in the river. Only the upper parts of the arches were still visible.
I hope England will be able to enjoy better weather soon. Our winter here in Belgium was about the mildest ever.
The place looks quite romantic and tranquil.
Beautiful reflections and good framing with the greenery.
Best regards, Paul

Interesting composition well balanced with this bridge with reflection on water and people on the right side, lovely light, well captured.

Ciao cara Beverley
bel soggetto e buona ripresa con l'indovinata presenza delle due figure che aggiungono una macchia di colore alla composizione già bella di suo.
Ottimi sia i colori che il contrasto.
Ciao e buon fine settimana

il ponte è molto interessante e con una lunga storia, bella anche l'inquadratura, ma le due persone rendono tutto più colorato e piacevole, dando anche il senso delle dimensioni.

Lovely place, and I love that you included the visitors too, showing a tourist life and a great sen of life generally to this place. Magnificent calm reflection too with that wonderful gold color replicated so well in the river. Lovely catch of this never to be repeated moment.
All the best

Beau point de vue sur ce vieux pont qui se reflète dans l'eau. Bon cadrage. La présence des personnes donne de la vie à la scène. Belle luminosité. Bien fait.

It's no wonder these two have stopped to take in the scenery, this is a beautifully charming bridge as you mentioned. We have relatively nothing of the sort here in Phoenix...the closest would be the London Bridge in Lake Havasu. We had to import it just to have something as nice!? :)
I'm amazed at the calmness of the water, it almost looks too good to be true. Sure provides a wonderful reflection, yeah? No need for a long exposure. My favorite element here though is the warm light, making those rustic tones of the bridge golden in appearance. Sounds like you've had quite a treacherous rainy season, hope things are starting to dry out some so that these areas can once again be enjoyed and photographed by all. Have a great weekend. Take good care.

Good morning Beverly,
Made a good choice with the two ladies stood on the ledge, watching the old bridge and river scenery.
A fine mild light, not too strong and yet perfect for photography, added a wonderfuil mirror to the reletively high water-level. Wonder how it looks upstream or downstream from up the bridge, onto both side's.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

I have learned here on TE that an inclusion of people always improves a picture. This is a good example of this fact, the persons here add a lot of interest and also colours. Without them, this would have been a fine, but quite ordinary postcard picture. This is now a very attractive capture.
annjackman (16477) 2014-02-24 5:45
The ancient stone bridge has a lovely honey colour so typical of the area. The light is lovely and the two people add interest especially as they are wearing eye-catching colours.
Beautifully framed and taken.
Kind Regards, Ann

The human presence gives us an interesting evaluation of the architecture scale

I hope the flood did not make too many damages as I did not have a chance to see it yet. Very good idea to include people here in brightly colored clothes, they enhance very well the interest. This POV is beautiful but the silhouettes make the view much more eye catching. You are travelling quite a lot through UK it seems like you have covered most of the map last year. I hoped this year I will go a bit further but I am not sure if it will happen. The living costs are making me to cut down fun activities like local travel. I guess that is what TE is for: to appreciate beautiful places which we cannot visit by ourselves,
