Photographer’s Note
Our female coot at the start of incubation of at least 4 eggs. going on the date this was taken add 28days and we should have a happy event.That is if they can keep the nest above water level they keep adding reed and twigs all the time so inspite of the rain they unlike the mallards have so far managed to keep the eggs out of the water.
The nest is buit into a dwarf willow rosmary leafed(Salix rosmarifolia) which is growing in the water on the edge of the small island
Taken using a single spot method of metering on the white face plate to try and reduce the burn-out because it is so bright against the matt black of the body, which usually seems to mean no detail to be seen.

Nice capture, even with a catchlight in the eye. The photo shows her environment very well. I'm already looking forward to seeing the young fry ;-))
We have a nesting coot across the little lake, but in an area where you can't get to, so I can only see her from afar :-(
