Photographer’s Note

I don't know how many of you out there are drummers - I helped set up and performed in a samba band years ago and have long slapped a djembe for my own pleasure and relaxation......and jammed along with all sorts of people......but........that was a slow stroll through the park in comparison to the mountains (for me) that this man climbed through his playing - the speed, power and energy of his work was astounding and a performer through and through.

Dulsori - traditional Korean drummers and festival makers.

Given the warmth of this shot it's hard to imagine the conditions I was in to shoot it - wearing two pairs of gloves between shooting, a thick hat and multi layers with the snow coming in from behind and hands still too cold to change cards or batteries after a couple of hours - right up against the stage edge dodging the monitor boxes and other stage impediments and the press photographers - but I knew what i wanted the minute I saw him performing...........
