100th post....

Welcome to St. Cuthbert's Parish Church, Elsdon. Built about 1400 in the shape of a cross, the Church is dedicated to St.Cuthbert, whose body is said to have rested here for a short time in 875 during the wanderings of the Monks of Lindisfarne.

In 1810, during the removal of great mounds of earth against the wall of the Church, more than 100 skeletons were discovered crammed together as if in one grave. Many other skeletons were found in 1877. These are thought to be the remains of distinguished warriors who died in the Battle of Otterburn in 1388.

A very luminous image of this heritage church, you also have an attractive blue sky above it with some nice white clouds, I wish the surrounding wall were a bit lower.

hi vicky & Happy 100! :-) what a nice little old church, excellent composition and pov showing us all the great details
with a good sharpness and wonderful colors. normally i would have tried to take this without the wall and the gate, but i
guess it would not have fit on the photo then, and these details are not so bad after all. well done & best wishes, thor.
