Photographer’s Note

Looking down the river Tyne from under the Swing Bridge, the shot shows the Tyne Bridge with the Tuxedo Princess (a floating nightclub) moored underneath it. Behind that, you can see the dome shape of the Sage Centre, with H.M.S. Calliope (the Naval training base), on the river's edge. In the distance, you can see the Baltic Arts Centre with the Millenium Bridge (the "Blinking Eye" as it's locally known due to the fact that it opens like an "eye" to let boats through) to it's left.
The river-side is going through a major re-generation at the moment, with the Arts Centres and new hotels on the south bank (the Gateshead side), and the old bonded wharehouses on the north bank (the Newcastle side) being converted into prestige appartments, offices and top class restaurants.
The Quayside, as it is known, is still one of "the places to go" in the Newcastle nightlife scene, due to the number of bars and restaurants either on or close to the river's edge.
