Photographer’s Note

Gateshead Millennium Bridge is one of several linked regeneration projects along 'Gateshead Quays', and plays the essential role of linking this area accessibly to the center of Newcastle. It is a tilting bridge. This picture is taken from Gateshead side just behind the Sage Music Centre.

Good composition Fara, but I agree with John that the image is too dark.
This would have worked better taken earlier in the evening when there was more light and colour in the sky; the famed blue hour, it never fails!
Worth another try, particularly as this is on your doorstep. It's a great location for this kind of photography.

Hi Fara,
I love night shots and this one in your gallery immmediately attracted my attention. I am a bit surprised by the previous comments, as the result is IMO pretty good. If I had to point out some (slight) remarks: - I have the same lens (mounted on a 350D) and the results are quite better, in terms of sharpness, with apertures between f9 and f13. Moreover this reduces the starbust effect (that I personally do not like very much) - It would have been pleasant to include a greater part of the right river bank, to complete its gentle curve - the overall composition is a bit dark and, apart from a single spot of the right side, there are no overexposed areas, so a bit longer exposition would have reveal more details in the dark areas.
Every night shot needs a certain degree of Shadow/Highlight correction to cope with high dynamic of lighting and a single exposure rarely is enough.
