Photographer’s Note
Taken at a fireworks display at Cliffords Tower in the historic city of York.
This great tower, perched high on a Norman motte, remains a solemn reminder of York's troubled past. In 1086, William the Conqueror constructed a large mound (motte) on the banks of the River Ouse and built a wooden castle at the top. Just over 100 years later, amid the riots in York when a group of Jews took refuge in the tower, it was burned to the ground. Something of a gruesome legend exists about this incident. Apparently, the reddish vein running through the brickwork on the outside of the tower, was 'dyed' by the blood of the Jewish victims as they were mercilessly slaughtered.

Great efects on this fireworks! love the fact that in spite of your exposition to have the fire traces, you can steel have some detail on castle...which exposition values you used? Good note too!

Nic,
What I like about the shot most is the vividness of the firework trails they obviously provide the energy. I would have liked it a bit more if, perhaps, the right hand side of the castle was a bit more visible, but then again it would have been a tall order to ask for more illumination on a dark night like that.
