Photographer’s Note

Quiet warm end of the day on the streets of York.
Hand in hand couples are heading towards the nearest pub or a reastaurant.
Attractive shop windows lose their power at this hour - not even big colourful prints advertising sales can attract anyone's attention (but mine).
It's been a hot day in the city and I'm on my way for a pint, too.

For those who prefer not so vivid colours there's a duotone version in the WS.

I really like the half bodies of the photo. They go along very well with the half price tag of the window. Well done.
I hope you will have a full pint at half price too.

hello Robert,
I'm among those who will always chose vivid colours over B&W, so I definitely like this version more than the one in WS. love how the bright red and yellow overshadow the two people, the subtle message of commercial interests and shopping becoming more important than personal relationship is quite true. impeccable quality, this is a great shot, my compliments.

Hi Robi,
I cannot believe this! A couple of days ago I also took some pics about the 'summer sale' subject matter. Mine are Madrilenian ones with some nice 'rebajas' (sale) wording on windows display. Umm....
I like both. My obvious choice would have been the B&W version but details, particularly on their faces are clearer in this gorgeous red&yellow one.

Well seen and taken juxtaposition of advertisement and couple - a graphic reminder of our prevalent value system. The colors are perfect here, much more effective than BW, imo.

Hello Robert,
It could be a strong photo against "Consumer Society" or something like that.
For me I like most the vivid colors version. Great composition.
And about your pint...

Very nice colored photo. I find this version more attractive than the B&W one because the vivid colors are better separated the couple from the background.

It has to be this version; not just because I prefer colour over B&W most of the time, but the sale poster is so "in-your-face" with these vivid colours that it is a good representation of the imminent recession we are facing. The couple are doing their best British ostrich impersonation. I even see the monsoon on its way! ;D

The way the economy is going we will be seeing a lot more 'Sales' - well seen - nice colours - the couple's position make the shot.

Attractions like colorful advertisements are seem to be just taking attention of photographers :)
Very nice compo, with hand in hand couple.. Although I like B&W photos quite much, I definitely prefer colorful version of your shot, since brightness and warmth of colors are very attractive.

De retour d'Afrique, ces belles couleurs me parlent. Je la préfère nettement à la version noir et blanc en WS. Belle composition.
