Photographer’s Note

Cliffords Tower was built as a castle for William the Conqueror's for his northern campaign of terror in 1069. The tower has survived 1,000 years of flood, fire and seige. At varous points in the history of the tower it has been a Royal Mint, prison, displayed the bodies of leaders of uprisings and was a court. Today the Tower is major tourist attraction and is owned and maintained by the English Heritage, this is a view taken from the south side of the tower.
