As you know, Mariusz favourite personal theme is blue hour. So, when we were in Whitby, we looked for the best place to make some nice shots.
The blue hour is the period of twilight each morning and evening where there is neither full daylight nor complete darkness. The time is considered special because of the quality of the light. Photographers call it sweet light.
In December, in England, it is around 4 p.m. and this best time lasts rather short time, so when you are in one place, you can't be in another, you must make decision.
So, we went around Whitby and discussed what to do. To go for famous fish and chips before, or after? What would be the best place - the view from near the whale jaws, or maybe near the bridge, or climb 199 steps near the Abbey? In spite all these considerations and effort, we didn't see blue hour :(, or rather we saw the abbey with blue but it was not the right place.
So this is the view of the end of 199 steps but rather in pink. It is maybe not so spectacular like Sydney Opera House at sunrise, specially taken by Lisa, but I like this view anyway. I was not disappointed.

witaj maria stuarda. seemingly no blue hours, but when you have one, i would strongly recommend you to use tungsten as your white balance. here with a warm one, you would have yellow and orange tones dominating your palette, even if you had a blue hour. anyway, your decision for a place looks fantastic, the high place gave you a wonderful townscape with interesting details to explore. tilted, grainy and blurred, but only the perfectionists care for these :PP

J'aime beaucoup cette petite série faite à la brunante. Encore un brin de lumière naturelle qui fait bien ressortir les détails et une certaine activité dans la rue à tes pieds qui anime ;a scène.

Reminds me of my shot of Lisbon, also taken close to the same time of late afternoon, and also taken from a good high pov. And with some people in the street, and with a view of the city beyond. Good sharpness and superb warm cold color contrasts between the reddish pink hues and the blue grey bg rooftops and paler grey blue sky. Have a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!

A very nice photo that will equally please those who like architecture and those who want to look at people. Your description of the light as the pink hour (or a few pink minutes) seems quite correct. It creates a fine atmosphere and it looks like a fine town from this angle too. Maybe the corner outside the Board Inn is not particularlu nice, but it looks cosy in this light.

Good evening Malgo,
Took me a long while to figure out how you made such a "grains-decorative" photo, assuming light was very mild at time taken. You might had to take this with a much lower ISO number, 1600 is way too high for such a scene.
However, managed to establish a unique "pink-hour" genre on photography, while waiting for blue-hour...
I like the roof-tops view over town,in contrast to the FG street in sight.
Have a nice holiday-weekend,

w ostatnich dniach mialem jeszcze mniej czasu na TE niz zwykle. Mam nadzieje ze to sie troche zmieni :)
Bardzo ladne miejsce wybralas do pokazania. Moze to wlasnie tam powinnismy byli zostac dluzej?
Troszeczke rzeczywiscie szumy sa mocne z powodu wysokiej czulosci.

haha....funny and interesting story:)
Its a story that we can all relate too, thats what makes it so enjoyable. And the fact it involves you and Mariusz haha
nice to hear you still had fun even if you didnt capture the famous blue light!
There is so much to see in the scene you captured, especially in the windows.
Fun photo overall

Ciao cara Itchy Feet
Maybe because we are girls, but I prefer this pink hour to the blue hour. There is something very soft and romantic about it and the warm light is very inviting. So I am glad that you took these shots whilst waiting for the ultimate Blue Hour. Good exposition and warmth. A very pretty, very characteristic photo. I like it a lot.
Warmest wishes and I am sure you were a good girl for Santa and that he is allowing you to go on some more Itchy Feet travels next year.
