This was my second visit to Whitby after many years... I couldn't remember the photos that I took then, it was only the streets, houses on the hills, sea food, Jet Black Jewellery and antique shops..:D Having seen so many Whitby Abbey images on line, I realised that how difficult it was to take photos of the Abbey. It makes me think that whatever the angle one tries someone has already done it..The Abbey have been standing there for hundreds years.. lucky the clouds change all the time..
For more detailed information about the Abbey please go to the link .Thanks for looking.

The dark threatening sky suits the subject well, making for a very dramatic and atmospheric composition. One expects Dracula to appear at any moment. Excellent point of view and well managed exposure. Good sharpness throughout. Like it very much.

Whitby Abbey is such an iconic building, and it has close links with the book 'Dracula', that it is not surprising that it is like a magnet to all who visit the town. You just have to stamp your own style on the photograph and I think you have done that.
I like how you have shown the light through the window openings, emphasising its ruined state and giving it the macabre feeling of a skeleton. The forboding sky matches the image well ... it is surely a good subject for Hallowe'en.
My warm regards,

As you say, this is such a photgenic, and photographed place, but its easy to see why. It is one the places that I really want to see when I next visit the UK. You have a done a great job here of presenting a little seen angle, and the silhouette effect works beautifully, particularly on the rose window. Its amazing how much of the tracery in the windows hasw survived when the building is in such bad condition. The clouds here are perfect for your shot too, angry and boiling, but with enough blue to contrast well against the well lit green grass. Beautifully seen and captured!
All the best

The Photograph with its deep sky and vivid green grass in the forground is absolutely facinating.
The light angled on the walls have been effectively captured. Your POV is a panorama tha captures the full length of the ruins of the Abbey. Against the light, the contours of the huge walls and columns are almost a silhouette.
Thanks for sharing this beautiful scenery, Jasmine.
