Photographer's Note
While traveling through a foreign country you have usually limited time. You have to select places which are the most beautiful or most interesting for you, or are not too far from each other. This is how sometimes you end up visiting places which are average and you skip places which are spectacular. Only living in an area for a longer period of time allows you to explore all its treasures... Whitby is a coastal town which cannot complain for the lack of tourists, however I believe most of them are more or less local. It seems to be one of many hidden treasures in the North East England.
The ruins on top of the hill belong to the Whitby Abbey. I have already presented a photo of this abbey on TrekEarth (click here). I have seen a picture from this POV before and I really wanted to find it. Finally I did :)

Hello Mariusz,
How wonderful that you found this viewpoint! I see that you have included a very interesting map: I wonder if you looked at Google Earth to find this viewpoint before you visited it? Sometimes I do that.
You have certainly made the most of this fine viewpoint and composed a beautiful photograph. The sweeping curve of the estuary with its myriads of boats leads us perfectly into the scene with the lovely red-roofed houses in the mid-ground. And, of course, Whitby Abbey stands proudly above it all.
Technically this is also an excellent shot: your colours are vibrant but true, the exposure is perfect and the details and sharpness are exquisite.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Mariusz
This is very impressive shot my frined! I love the mid foreground since there are tremendous delicate details capatured there, real feast for the eyes, while the wider view offers the general picturesque scene with the Abbey nicely sits atop to drag us around, it's so influencial as an added focal point. Lovely how the almost identical town houses are neatly arranged in bright stunning colors offering such great overall contrast to the scene. Your smart inclusion of diagonal boats in the foreground extends the feel of depth and perspective. Lighting control is splendid with good touches of green and deep blue water all combined to make this such delightful shot. Great effort well rewarded, Congrats, TFS :))
Warm regards

Hello Mariusz,
This is a magnificent view. Although it has in a way composed itself from this POV you struggled to find this remarkable place. The picture consists of three distinct features: the hill with the abbey, the town and the marina. Every part is wonderful to watch, with so many fine details, and you were lucky to get here at a time when the light was at its very best.
Kind regards,

hi mariusz,
what a cracking view you have managed here. you have been able to take in so much of the town and show it off so well. the boats are positioned perfectly from the bottom, left corner to draw the viewer further into the image. incredible sharpness and detail. the abbey on the hillside is very impressive, what a sight it would have been, high above the town when it was in full use.

Hello Mariusz,
This is a magnificent photo. I like the houses all in the sun, so sunny and clear. And the colors are very warm and rich. Excellent arranged, with good POV. The tower on the middle keeps this from having that timeless, old-world feel. You have managed to keep the idyllic atmosphere. The light and the clarity is just stunning.
Have a nice day,

Hello Mariusz,
Whitby is one of my all time favourite places in England. We used to take the children there, in a tent, many years ago! As you know, I have posted a few shots, myself, but I have never seen it from this viewpoint. (I must admit, on the last few occasions that I have been, the weather would not have permitted this view!)
The ruined abbey looks spectacular, high on the clfftop, and there is so much of interest, like wonderful stepping stones, to lead you upwards.
There are few Northern English towns that have such a predominance of red building materials, all adding to the overall, warm effect.
You have a splendid dof.
This would make a fine postcard to advertise the town!
Have a lovely w/e,
Bev :-)

Hello Mariusz,
As usual, in your picture has a lot of interesting compositional elements, vivid colors, great architecture and irreproachable quality. But I see no close foreground usually very colorful and aesthetic in your shots. Maybe such a foreground is unnecessary in this case, because the weather is fine, the middle-ground and background are colorful and picturesque enough. Thus, as usual, a brilliant job!
Best regards,
Sergiy

What a beauty...The hill in the background with the skeletal ruins of a palace or a cathedral, the neat and bright rows of red roofed houses with red brick walls, the trawlers and boats neatly tied in the harbour. The shimmering blue water gives the photograph a bright and uplifting mood. A very good variety of colours and shades. The brightness and clarity of the photograph is amazing. Great Composition.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mariusz!
It's really true what you're saying:)!
Comparing both photos it's hard to believe the place is the same! This pov is also fantastic, with the impressive ruins at the top and the little town and the boats. You found a really good place to get this one. A very good composition and a place that we don't see here so often.

Oh this is such a delightful place, and until your photos, had no idea it existed. The colours are so beautiful and rich and the details of the architecture are pin-sharp. The church on the top of the hill overlooking everything is the icing on the cake. An immaculate photo, of the the first class.

Hello Mariusz - I missed this one while I was away. What an all encompassing view of Whitby. Your image has fine detail and interest from front to back. I love the way it includes so many important aspects of the town; the harbour, the houses built on the terraces and the iconic abbey are all represented. A fine photograph of one of my east coast favorite places. Warm regards Rosemary

Hi Mariusz,
As a young boy you were collecting postcards, and now you have decided to make them for yourself and our pleasure?! Jeeee! A great sharp photo. Probably that a lot nice things have been written above. I will just add that it's good that a small boat happened to pass in that corner of the photo with relatively less information. I guess you've been waiting for something like this.
