Photographer’s Note
The painted door on this lonely cottage near West Burton caught my eye. There are many abandoned stone cottages in the dales of the Yorkshires. Many of these dwellings were inhabited by shepherds, while some small cottages in this vicinity were used by men involved in quarrying stone.
Since posting the above, Ben4321 has corrected me as to the fact that this is likely a barn, though as he points out, some of these have been converted to havens for walkers. Having said that, the lonely shepherd's life often involved sleeping in structures that served as both barns and human shelters.

Hi John, wonderful composition here, nice diagonal division of the frame, and this cottage is very well placed in the corner. Lovely light on the tree (and on everything else actually:) A very good landscape photograph indeed.

The Dales are going to be my next series. It's not my part of Yorkshire but we spent 2 days there earlier this year and walked to West Burton from Aysgarth, so this is a nice surprise.
This is an excellent view of one of these stone dwellings that are scattered all over the Dales. In May everything was still beautifully green as you have captured here. The light is lovely here as it illuminates the foreground tree in particular.

Hi John,
A spring picture with the first green vegetation of the year, maybe are this house small, but I find this wonderful for a holiday middle of the nature together with herdsman and his sheeps, far of the populated environment. Lovely nature picture!
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice evening,

This is just wonderful John. I love your composition and what you have build with those deep greens. The tree is so beautiful and so well placed in the frame. The blue cloudy sky covering the upper third is perfect. Love the light and shadows you captured. Really great.
PS. That thin line and its holding post break the peaceful/magic mood a bit. Perhaps you can clone it - if you want - using the "clone tool" in PS. Just a thought.

Hi John
Charming cottage with it's blue door taken in a pretty light. The rolling hill makes for a pretty backdrop. As the powerline cuts through the field, a little pp to rub it out would have been nice.

The Yorkshire Dales is one of my favourite areas of the country and your shot sums up its appeal eloquently.
Your composition is excellent, with the tree and barn placed at the perfect point in the frame.
What really ensures this shot's success though, is that beautiful warm light. Stunning.
As far as your note is concerned, I hope you won't be offended if I correct you slightly. What we are looking at here is a barn, not an abandoned cottage. I imagine that the majority of the stone cottages that you noticed on your visit were in fact barns as well. They were often constructed in the corners of fields to provide shelter for the livestock in winter, and to store fodder in. The lack of windows and the large animal sized doorway are a bit of a giveaway. Even people in Yorkshire like to have windows in their houses!
Many of these barns are no longer used as larger farms have swallowed up the many smaller farms that would have occupied the same area in the past, and motorised transport obviates the need to store fodder in close proximity to the livestock. Many of them have been converted into bunk-barns to provide accommodation for walkers.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi John,
What a beautiful image. It seems like a painting. I don't know if it's the strong colors or the lighting that makes a tone range of greens all over the image, the ondulating field that goes up the hill to the pine forest, or just the simple scene of the tree and cottage, but this landscape really attracts me. The sharpness is just great and the cloudy sky enhance it. A superb work!

Hi John,
I think this is a landscape that could inspire the great impressionistic painters to a master peace. I almost can imagine how Cezanne this landscape could handle and how van Gogh should have attacked it.
The landscape looks so simple but is full of surprises.

Hello John,
A very good job.

Good evening John -
Isn't this country just a photographers dream? The sky, the evening light, and the composition just make a simple rock shed into a work of art. It's just too bad there is a power line right in the way. The strong elementa thoughout minimize the intrusion of the line.
As usual well done! Thanks for sharing

The composition of the cottage (where are the windows???) and tree against the rolling hills of Yorkshire are great. Noticing your recent images are void of any noise what so ever- how'd you fix the problem John? New Camera?

Hi John
this is a great shot to add to your landscape stables. The lush green is wonderful, the light is nice and soft, and the off center composition balances the overall scene very well. What I particularly like is the soft light, it has given a nice luminousity to the scene. Nice work.

Hi John,
Your light management and focus are perfect giving lovely color and detail. The many shades of green with the accents of blue in the door and sky are most attractive. I also like the framing with the detail of the stonework under the old trees and the waves of manicured land under the sky strewn with fluffy clouds. Well done!!

So you have made a good realisation for the blue door, I agree this is a great point in the whole landscape. Its position in the frame makes the choice we have to consider the only construction and tree or the whole beautiful landscape under the light.

Hi John, a very elegant and sophisticated compo you offer us here. The trees, alone, in a loose pattern or in the form of the forest bring a lovely continuity in the form language of this capture, together with the gentle slopes of the landcape. The blue doored barn breaks this pattern in a fine way.
The colours and the light are superb. Great!
Have a nice weekend,

A pastoral view well balanced John,by the tree and the house on the left with the "open" area on the left.
The colors are sharp, without any noise removing trace on this one,I am glad you fixed your noise problem.
I like it that the tree stay shorter then the mountain in the background and is well detached from it.

Dear John,
The problem with your photos, and me being slow, is that I just can't read the critiques, as I usually do, and try not to repeat what has been already said. You have so many deserved critiques that I could pass one hour just to read them! So, sorry if I repeat what others have said, but I prefer using my time in looking at your excellent photo! ;)
What a beauty this one is. When I see a photo like that, I just want to pack my bags and buy a ticket for England! The colors, the rich and warm tones, are really impressive. I always have been fascinated by some trees with their intricate shapes. This one is no exception. That blue door is the icing on the cake! Very enjoyable photo!
