Photographer's Note
This is the Post Office at Reeth in North Yorkshire. Reeth is a charming village with an attractive village green. I visited a number of times during a week's stay there, but came to realise its important to the elderly of the area when I gave a lift to an elderly woman from Gunnerside. She visited Reeth each week to collect her pension, travelling by bus. However, after a knee operation she found the bus difficult to get on and I offered her a lift.As car owner I realised how much more complicated life could be living in a country area with limited transport options. In cities most buses have steps that can be lowered for the disabled.
I enjoyed my time in her company and she told be something of the areas history (including "The corpse Way" -see previous photo). We had a coffee in The Kings Arms, a pub with an inglenook fireplace(circa 1734)overlooking The Green - see workshop and browsed the stalls of the small outdoor market held on The Green. The stall holders offered local products and I tried WEnsleydale cheese and wish I had bought a larger chunk!

Hello Beverley ,
This is the charm of the old villages ! I like the presence of teh walking man in the composition . Stoned houses are beautiful . They looks like some buildings in Brittany .

Ciao Bev,
Bravo! TFS !
A nice day

Hello Bev - I see you've posted a safe bet today, pity about the shot you posted yesterday, I really liked it. That's not to say I don't appreciate this one though! A very attractive village PO taken under good light which has lent super contrast to the shot. I love rural villages, this one looks charming, but I can see how difficult it can be for people without transport. Village shops and PO's seem to close due to lack of business and the 'pull' of the big stores... pity. Nice shot. Warm regards rosemary.

Hello Bev,
Well, this picture really is my cup of tea - a lovely old stone building taken against a fabulously dark and interesting sky and the whole picture stunningly clear and sharp with gorgeous vibrant colours. Did you use a polarising filter to get the sky like this?
I love your workshop picture too - that inglenook looks so inviting!
And what an interesting note too. Yes, I often think that to retire to the country to some isolated cottage, miles from anywhere, would be absolutely fabulous but one really has to consider what might happen as we get older and might no longer be as mobile nor able to drive - then you really might have big problems.
A super picture and, try as I might, I can't quite work out what Rosemary meant by saying, "pity about the shot you posted yesterday" - I don't understand that.
Never mind, this picture is Wonderful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Bev,
It sounds as if you have been steeped in local traditions and food, and enjoyed everyo minute of it.
This looks less like a P.O. than any building I have ever seen but is all the more charming because of that. I love the natural stone building, obviously built to withstand the harsh winters. The r/h side looks older than the left, with its tiny windows and smaller coursed stones.
Your exposure is sharp and detailed and you took every advantage of the sun, with the light behind you.
By coincidence, my friend stayed in Reeth a couple of weeks ago!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)
