Photographer's Note

This is the Post Office at Reeth in North Yorkshire. Reeth is a charming village with an attractive village green. I visited a number of times during a week's stay there, but came to realise its important to the elderly of the area when I gave a lift to an elderly woman from Gunnerside. She visited Reeth each week to collect her pension, travelling by bus. However, after a knee operation she found the bus difficult to get on and I offered her a lift.As car owner I realised how much more complicated life could be living in a country area with limited transport options. In cities most buses have steps that can be lowered for the disabled.
I enjoyed my time in her company and she told be something of the areas history (including "The corpse Way" -see previous photo). We had a coffee in The Kings Arms, a pub with an inglenook fireplace(circa 1734)overlooking The Green - see workshop and browsed the stalls of the small outdoor market held on The Green. The stall holders offered local products and I tried WEnsleydale cheese and wish I had bought a larger chunk!
