Photographer’s Note
In Pickering the clock went back to 1943 to give an experience of life on the Home Front when British and American troops were in the area training for the following year's D-Day landings.
Re-enactors dressed in civilian and military garb add to the spectacle and an estimated 10,000 crowd of locals and visitors thronged the Market Place on Saturday morning for the annual parade of veterans and vehicles.
Wrooom-wrooommm!

A good photo, Robert. The timing is perfect here. He looks like a kid having fun. Not too sure people training for the D-Day landings had so much fun, isn't it?
Excellent monochrome conversion, if you ask me. The contrast is good and there are still details in most of the dark and the white parts. The choice of aperture is good, so that the bokeh is to my taste.
But mostly, it is his face that is the best! You had a great model and you've done your job perfectly.

Hi Robert. Great photo. Well timed and captured. Excellent sharpness and defocused BG. The BW conversion suits the subject perfectly also. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

hehe, since G. is back, this is the perfect choice, Robi. Such a funny expression. He seems like a child enjoying his new toy and ready to speed up through the crowd. Again, a superb b&w that makes me forget about colors and that's no easy to happen with me.
cheers,
ric

Now that's one great expression you caught here Robi - he reminds me a bit of Cpl Jones in Dad's Army...
It seems you had a lot of fun picking out the various characters at this event. It looks like a great laugh.
You can't beat the British for coming up with these eccentric military reenactments, although the Americans do go in for this kind of thing as well. I can't really imagine the Europeans reenacting WWII - well not the Germans anyway.
Cheers,
Ben

Hi Robert,
I guess that the event had a lot of potential for great portraits like this one, but your inspiration and sill was no less important to get a photo report so amazing. There is something deliciously childish about the expression of this old gentleman, who seems to be taking part in one of my favourites humoristic TV series of BBC, which passed in Portugal as "Hallo, hallo" and showed the adventures of a café owner in occupied France during WW2.
Regards, José.

Hi Robert. It's a great portrait. Everybody said: He looks like a kid and I can't say it in other way. Great expression that you caught in the right time and well framed. Wonderful. Regards. PAulo

He would definitely have been in the real Dad's Army back in 1943, especially with that white moustache. Your timing to catch that expression was perfect. Technically excellent too.

Hi Ribi,
Makes me think of Dad's Army now doesn't it. The life in this image is palpable. I am about clueless when it comes to reportage and street portraiture but your gallery is one I will refer back to if I ever take that bold step.
Cheers!

Hello Robi! Look at him, he is having the day of the year, tons of fun, enjoying the audience where he can show his motorbike, a treasure that he cares for and spends many nights trying out things that it might run a little faster. This is what I really love about English people, they never seem to get old, they have a little hobby, maybe in their garage working on some old automobile or something else, and stay young in their hearts. I have said that to someone else just the other day that Swiss people turn old before they have grey hair, at least some. What a wonderful face, what a great expression "careful I am cooooming fast" ... he might be shouting :))) Fantastic job! Have a great Saturday ... Barbara.

Hi Robert
Looking through this series, I feel transported back in time, even if I was not born at the time.
B&W is the way to go and you are mastering well the medium.
The expression of the participants are natural, they have fun, even if war is not a fun business. The way you take the picture, a tight fit for an intimate feeling, we feel there.
This man, with his epochal mustache makes it all.
Have a good day
Charles
