Photographer’s Note
Duncombe Park is the home of Charles Duncombe, Lord Feversham, and his wife, Lady Feversham. (Duncombe is the family name; Feversham is the title) It is in the small market town of Helmsley close to the castle. Open from May to October, it has over 400 acres of grounds with three different walks to enjoy. Entry to the house itself is by guided tour only.
The house was originally built in 1713, but was gutted by fire in 1879. Restoration began in 1891 and completed in 1894. For a period of 60 years from 1924 the house was leased out to a girl’s school, but the present Lord & Lady Feversham decided to make it their home and have re-decorated the rooms as closely to the original decoration as possible.
This is my first “real” panorama on TE. It is a stitch of 7 vertical images. As it is my 500th post I decided to try something new for me. Please look at the large version to see the architectural details.
ISO 200
Added later
Now it's uploaded I'm disappointed with the quality of the LP. I had 6 attempts to upload it. According to PS it was the correct size but TE wouldn't accept it so I had to reduce the quality with even more compression.
2nd addition
Thanks to Jean Yves I managed to reduce the size and re-do the LP. I think it's better now.

Hi Kath!
Congratulations for this amazing milestone of 500 photos! Not only an impressive amount, but also a regularity in quality.
This outstanding stitched image is a great way to celebrate the grand occasion. The symetrical architecture was relevant for this centered composition and a perfect subject for a large panorama. The colours in the sky and on the ground are vivid and vibrant and create an interesting contrast with the austerity of the castle.
Best regards! Bravo for this achievement!

Hi Kath,
Congratulations for your 500th post, you've been around for a while now building yur nice gallery and I enjoy meeting you here regularly, best wishes for the continuation !
For a first stitch attempt, it's a very good result, first you found a subject calling for this format, the leading path gives some depth and you have nice clouds (though a little bit pixellated in the large version) to give plenty of interest to the sky, then the manor is the perfect place to held such an anniversary party, I'm already on my way to the Easyjet web site to find out how to attend it ;-))
Meanwhile, you might already take off the first champagne cork, you've earned it Madame !
Have a nice day,

Hello Kath,
Bravo !

Hi Kath,
congratulations to your 500th post! I think it was a lot of work to get this one, how long did it take you to get all these photos taken and stitched?
Concerning this photo itself, I like the black borders as I think a panorama post like this one needs a strong border. The texture of the sky is great. Well, the white borders are perhaps a bit too thick ... and the panorama post (which was indeed a good idea) could be larger. That´s the problem with this site (although I´m addicted to it) ... it also often happens to me that after posting, some photos look quite different to those I actually wanted to post ...

An impressive panorama Kath and good for you for trying something new on your 500th post - congratulations. The quality on the LP seems OK to me , it's often a struggle to keep file size down and retain quality. Considering how much is included in the shot you've done a great job of maintaining the correct perspective.

A seven image stitch on that kind of perspective requires a lot of fitting. Was it automatic or handicraft work?
Impressive English style pompous place. Strong contrasts. I like those weather beaten building stones.

He is good Kath, very good. Better than the pre-production concept. Here the colours are more neutral and less saturated which gives the whole castle a very nice look withoutm overdoing things.
The 400kb is indeed a struggle, they should raise it to at least 800 with a maximum of 2000px, which results in a much better compression factor.
Congrats to your no:500...i am sure i will not make it that far.....i think ;-)
Really a good stitch..!!!

Hello Kath -
500? Wow! I like the panorama but it looks a bit small to me. I am not an expert as I have never posted one, but I have thought about it. I looked at the LP and you did a very good job with the stitching as there are no visible anomalies. Does the landscape start to rise on the right 1/4th of the image? or, is the horizon a touch out of level? I think you have done a bang up job on this one and is worth of more than 2x:) so here are 2 more for what it's worth :):). Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Good work and Kudos for trying something different .. you did well stitching the shots together Kath but .... Pano's don't show up to well at only 800 wide .. you lose the whole point of producing them as they are designed to show more but the size restrictions kill that dead. .. congrats on the big 500 .

Congratulations for your 500th post. Nice number, and fantastic gallery.
Your first stitch has given a great result, and you have obtained a setting with the beautiful panoramic one of this castle, with a symmetrical image of three buildings, with the way that gives a great sensation of depth, and the great contrast with the green grass, the trees and the sky.

Kath, the shot and your stitch technique are flawless. Regarding the LP I tend not to use the higher end of size but somewhere in the lower end. Two reasons:
1) I don't like huge LP beacuse I have to scroll around to see the picture and I prefer it with one glance
2) A smaller LP gives less compression artifacts and I thimk that was your original problem until JY intervened. Right?
The place and architecture looks gorgeous, but I don't a singel sympathy with a person owning this and throwing out a school so that he can use it for his own purpose. Such a snob! Sorry for my language ... but something leaves quite hot headed and is certainly not adequate anymore in our globalized society where the differences between rich and poor are getting worse by the minute!

I cannot comment technically, to me it seems perfect and the perspective is superb, the composition pleases me but personally I prefer the small places in the English countryside that you depict so well, they have a great intimistic feel - anyway, this rather pretentious building could not be better portrayed for a general view, it seems to me !
Congratulations for your 500th post, I am impressed by this photo, and have a good weekend,

Congratulations on the 500th post, Kath, and a very fine pano with a great note, to boot! I really love the colors and sharpness and the simplicity yet completeness of the point of view. The clouds and lines add a lot to this. And as for the framing and the rest, you like as though you'd been at this for years. BTW, pretty nice final result on the LP, too. Hi Kath,
Congratulations! 500 is a respectable number!
You commemorate the event with an gorgeous photo! The view is superb and all the technical details, of the shots themselves, their PP and the stitch looks right on the spot. I am already used to your special talent for such shots, but even so it is highly admirable how you ventured yourself in making your first pano with 7(!) images and it sorted out so well.
It sounds almost bad taste making an effort to find less great things on such a post. I only find two:
It looks like too much USM, but I guess that this is one of those cases in which is preferable like that than to appear too smooth. Anyway, that foliage certainly makes it very hard to fit the TE limits.
Another thing that looks strange is the elevation on the right end, but it is only noticeable after a much careful look and probably I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't read jwmunro's critique.
You aren't the first person that complains about the difficulty in producing a file that fits the TE limits minimizing the quality loss. I don't use PS, but I never had such a problem with Gimp - it is never wrong in the calculation of the number of bytes of the saved file. Maybe PS hasn't such a fine scale to adjust the quality/compression. Gimp being free and occupying only 60 Mb of hard disk space, maybe a viable option for such more trickier cases is to save the final image with maximum quality in PS and then open it in Gimp, just to save it again with the adequate compression.
Regards, José.
