Photographer's Note
A trip to Gloucester Docks takes you back to time past.
A trip to the docks in Manchester on the other hand is a glimpse into the future.
Developed as the port of the Manchester Ship Canal, the docks at Salford numbered 6-10. Further along the canal at Trafford were the docks 1-5.
Salford Quays is a modern redevelopment of the docks 6-9.
Media City is built on the area where dock 10 was planned. It is a development for media enterprises, bringing together many, many aspects of the industry. It is to here that BBC have relocated much of their London based operation.
On other parts of the quays are the Lowry Arts Centre, Imperial War Museum North, a large outlet shopping mall and residential development too. Old Trafford Football ground is only a short walk, as is Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Hi Martin
I'm surprised this one hasn't produced any points for you yet.
its a wonderful overview of the City of Manchester. I'm also surprised how vacant and empty the city looks, perhaps its just the time of day or something.
great to see you using a f22, i do that as well.
scanning the image, i'm really interested in that building with the strong white border - lots of composition options there.
nice shot
cheers

Hi Martin,
I can't help but agree with Craig in that this one deserves a lot more attention than it has so far attracted. And, also as Craig says, it looks a bit like Aberdeen on a charity day - not a soul to be seen on the streets. How strange!
But your picture is well composed. The lighting is superb and I love the way the light glints off the water on the left. Lovely bold lines of composition and I like how that huge vertical rectangular frame of glass is placed just in the right position in the frame.
Lovely colours, perfect exposure and, as always, stunning details and sharpness.
Brilliant!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Martin,
A lovely clean image of Media City. What could be just a jumble of buildings the site does have some coherence. As Craig suggests there could be lots of interesting compositions in this area. A very interesting shot beautifully taken.
Best wishes, Ann
