Photographer’s Note

Photo taken in the cafe at the top of the Tate Modern. Just stopped in for a spot of tea (or was it coffee? I can't remember). The Thames and St. Paul's sit in the background.

I took pic on B/W mode and cropped it on Arc Soft Photo Impression (I'm still learning my way around Photo Shop).

I'd love to hear some critiques!!

A wonderfully creative shot of this increasingly familiar viewpoint - I like the idea of the words on the cups and well exploited by you to include them in this pic - a rich symbol for what cities mean to so many people - really very good!I'm not sure whether the background would have benefitted from being sharper - perhaps - but I tend to look at photographs like this for their conceptual, content and compositional (although I would seriously look at cropping out the object to the right - just see how the picture changes without it) merits first and then at more technical aspects - so three out of four are really quite good - the fourth raises questions around clarity and depth of field and other possibilities with lighting.

Here's a critique, Nichelle: great! Seriously, the subtle contrast in tones between foreground precision and slight (but good) softness beyond, dramatizes the relation between the two cups which take on almost human attributes. I like that bthey're touching, just so...Originality and style by the cupfull! Cheers, Francis

Nice shot Nichelle, it's a great DOF shot with the cups in focus and the city in the background. I think you've composed the shot well and made the right choice with black and white.

Hi Nichelle, A very well composed picture. The symmetric and asymmetric of the hand shaking cups are nicely shown in the picture, leaving the logic imaginations to the viewers. The background is beautiful, together with the foreground showing the depth of the picture. Well done.
