Photographer's Note

More than 36,000 runners filled the streets in London today, while about 500,000 Londoners and tourists encouraged them with cheers, shouts and smiles.

As every year, it was a wonderful event: the joyful atmosphere, the cheering crowds, the athletes running for glory, for charities or just for fun, and the wonderful sun blessing the City, all was perfect.

The event was particularly meaningful as it happened just six days after the bombings at the Boston Marathon: a 30-second silence was observed at the start, and many runners worn black ribbons.

These athletes running together, and the people supporting them, prove that for every terrorist mother****er there are millions who refuse to be terrorized.
