A lot of atractions taking place during the day in front of Trafalgar Square, like this flying... artist.
Trafalgar Square is a public space and tourist attraction in central London, built around the area formerly known as Charing Cross. It is situated in the borough of the City of Westminster. At its centre is Nelson's Column, which is guarded by four lion statues at its base. There are a number of commemorative statues and sculptures in the square, while one plinth, left empty since it was built in 1840, The Fourth Plinth, has been host to contemporary art since 1999. The square is also used for political demonstrations and community gatherings, such as the celebration of New Year's Eve.
The name commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars over France and Spain which took place on 21 October 1805 off the coast of Cape Trafalgar in Los Canos de Meca, a town in the municipality of Vejer de la Frontera (in the municipality of Barbate since 1940), Cadiz, Spain. The original name was to have been "King William the Fourth's Square", but George Ledwell Taylor suggested the name "Trafalgar Square".
In the 1820s George IV engaged the architect John Nash to redevelop the area. Nash cleared the square as part of his Charing Cross Improvement Scheme. The present architecture of the square is due to Sir Charles Barry and was completed in 1845.
Trafalgar Square is owned by the Queen in Right of the Crown and managed by the Greater London Authority, while Westminster City Council owns the roads around the square, including the pedestrianised area of the North Terrace. It forms part of the Northbank business improvement district.

A very fine and also interesting daily life street scene. This is well performing "street artist" with an advanced tool for the performance. The real people in the background seems to be amazed. They are probably trying to find out how this could work... You have also included a part of the fine architecture as backdrop.

Hello Danos, Amazing how they do this. Even when you guess the trick, you wonder how can they remain in this uncomfortable position for longer time. And I am afraid that this small bucket is rather empty. Interesting scene.

I do not know about you, but personally I love street performers. They bring so much life and color to the every day scenes and always stop me even for a moment. This is one is quite amazing and you captured him at the very right time. The couple of the pedestrians in the background seem to be just mildly amused by hi efforts - shame, he deserves more attention :-)
Well taken! TFS

What a brilliant trick! I have seen this before with the floating sadhus, but this seems much more impressive, the artist being in a standing position looks a lot more difficult to do! I know how the trick is done, but would guess it is much harder to achieve like this. The silver effect looks great too.
I love that you included the lady and her expression of surprise, it adds to the surprise I feel looking this. Cool picture, thanks for sharing.

Bonjour, cher Danos,

Hi Danos, beautiful idea this capture,a great point of view and fine detail despite the distance and the difficult light,I'm still waiting to understand what is the trick..ehehe..have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

pierrefonds (68855) 2014-04-25 4:25
You have captured well the action of the artist and the reaction of the persons. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the clothing of the artist. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

More and more see we this in the cities, but a lot people are really artists.
But your picture is wonderful, pleasant to look at.
Your picture exudes calm, excellent sharp and clear.
Composition and presentation be superb.
Very well done, TFS.

Interesting scene from street.
How do they do it?
Good frame and colors.
Have a nice afternoon
ikeharel (74733) 2014-04-25 7:00
We see those street-performers throughout Europe nowadays, a common scene we saw in Italia and germany lately, Danos.
In your photo, the passing two ladies are staring with an astonishment over the live-statue. That's made the pic. so wonderful.
Enjoy a nice weekend,
holmertz (56095) 2014-04-25 8:07
Although I can imagine how this is done, it is still impressive that anyone is willing to go through this painful and exhausting exercise in the hope of earning a small amount of money. This was actually a gift to you who could take a fine and amusing street-photo with good inclusion of the two persons passing by and the building in the background.

jmdias (66323) 2014-04-25 17:27
I saw this trick in Verona, but with two guys. very nice angle catching the sculpture, the personages walking and these details of architecture. a compo with an excellent quality.
kato (11630) 2014-04-25 19:13
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see street performer in sidewalk. He holds an interesting pose as if air floating to one hand about a cane. And, the couple who passes the width draws out a good impact.
abmdsudi (56298) 2014-04-25 22:03
Well. that gets you thinking of the old trick, anyhow it is impressive at least to see the floater brightening the 'muddy' day well captured and presented. Tfs

Wow! We also have those characters on the streets of Las Vegas but nothing like this! This awesome! But the people seems be immune to it. Nicely captured with good details. Well done, tfs.
adramad (47626) 2014-04-27 7:47
The ingenuity of these artists that populate the city streets have no limit, this highly original composition, which certainly attracts the attention of all passers-by, as the girls we see in the background.
Excellent brightness and very good sharpness.
Very good job. I like.
Tigerlily (3379) 2014-04-27 11:34
What an amazing shot! How long was she in the air?:-D She didn't fly away after she got paid, did she? Wonderful colour and detail, nice light control.

unusual live statue. Amazing artist. Unusual idea, attractive person for tourists. Good presentation.
Have a nice evening.
mcmtanyel (25584) 2014-04-27 15:23
Very interesting! Do you have any idea how she did it? Was she standing on a plexiglass platform? Did she have a stiff body armor attached to the tall walking stick? Maybe she was wearing strong magnets with the similar poles pointed toward each other.
geoant68 (331) 2014-04-27 23:27
jemaflor (100085) 2014-04-27 23:39
Impressive effect, well framed from this pov and with people walking, interesting photo, tfs.
serp2000 (45046) 2014-04-28 6:04
Wow! Fresh idea, I have never seen a standing live sculpture, usualy they have sit on the invisible construction. Good capture of the street perfomance. Very interesting report from London!

Geia sou Danos
What a strange coincidence this morning which is related to one of my recurrent dreams in which I can move in all directions at about 15 centimeters above ground without walking, just by bending sideways or from front to back, just like riding a Skegway!!
You captured by the rules book this 'disciple' of levitating Tibetan monks for an exciting poster.
Cricri (122473) 2014-04-28 7:05
nikkitta (17066) 2014-04-28 16:02
Opss up the artist, never see this before, must be an exausting job, anyway like street artist and usully take a video from their acting
Good to add part of the architecture at the back as well as the couple for the human touch
Good work and note
bobocortis (16026) 2014-04-28 22:58
Great shot, well balanced.
Well chosen focal lenght.
Royaldevon (40988) 2014-04-29 5:37
Ha! Ha! Danos, a flying figure is a bit of a novelty, even in Trafalgar Square! You have captured her sharply and positioned her strongly.
For me, the element that brings it all to life, is the expression on the face of the passer-by.
Have a lovely day,
mjw364 (1464) 2014-04-29 5:43
I was in London last week and there are so many of these "flying" street performers around it is all getting a bit samey. But this one "flies" in an orignal way at least since most of the others sit down. She looks like a flying Mother Theresa come back from the dead!
mkamionka (39133) 2014-04-30 7:41
nice capture with some old architecture in the back. I like how you have caught the people passing by -the woman turns her head not believing what she sees.
Very well done!
Didi (60590) 2014-05-08 22:54
Very interesting subject, nice expression of the woman looking to the statue
ruisc_pt (11090) 2014-05-09 6:18
It's easy for a mechanical or civil engineer to "get the picture" :)
I like the way you frame it
Miguel82 (27648) 2014-05-14 9:26
Some original attraction holding your attention Danos, a flying artist on air, good report from Trafalgar square, perfect sharpness, regards
adores (46079) 2014-05-31 16:36
I've seen others but never one standing like this one. I like his eye catching clothes and pose and also the women passing and watching him.
fabbs99 (17175) 2014-06-03 23:58
Excellent and colorful shot of the lady in the flying suit.Keep sharing.TFS.
macjake (70515) 2014-06-17 5:22
this 'trick' is becoming SO popular around the world. its a shame because it is loosing its interest.
most people know how its done now, and the crowds are getting smaller and smaller - at least thats what I see happening.
I like the photo because we get to see the person in the bg taking a look.
and as Gert has said, its amazing to think someone would do this for long hours for such small amounts of money :(
fun post though
