London`s calling, a photo from London, England

Photographer's Note

My first shot that I posted from USA was of a classic New York taxi cab. As the taxis of London are as iconic for this city as the yellow ones are for New York City, I thought it could be a good idea to try the same here. I was in London a few years ago also, but back then I didn`t have a decent camera. So my first shot from this great city and country will be this one of a classic London Taxi. I noticed that some of them had got a cover reminiscent the British flag, and with many Londons street names and areas written in between, and with the main text London`s calling.

The picture was taken a day we spent looking around in the part of town where one find Camden market. I thought the colourful houses would make a nice backdrop for this scene.

Brilliant pan, Erling - a technique I haven't tried, but love every time I see. Such a great sense of motion here, with the selective focus of one's eye in a similar situation, catching the small details as a subject whizzes by. You picked a perfect subject here in this cab - symbolic with the Union Jack design, but stylistic as well. A really perfect first image from London - looking forward to more!

we had to wait a while for your new photo,but waiting has been rewarded.This is really amazing shot and...so British.The iconic London cab(even if it´s not completely black)was a good choice for the first post from your latest trip.Just love the effect of movement you´ve created here(I can remember one of your shots from NY you mentioned in your note-also yellow NY cab frozen in movement).It makes the shot so lively and dynamic.Perfectly composed and executed.I´m really impressed seeing the outcome of your work Erling!

Une bonne photo de ce taxi dont les couleurs s'associent à celles des façades en arrière plan. Le filé est assez réussi (la vitesse 1/15s est peut-être un poil trop grande?) et j'aime l'effet couleurs dans l'image. J'aurais bien recadré un peu en coupant le bas de l'image?

do you know what my favorite part of the photo is? you'll never guess it....its the hubcaps :)
they seem to be spinning at a very high rate of speed even when slowed in the photo.
thats a funny looking car! we certainly don't have it here in Canada.
