The Guildhall, a photo from London, England

Photographer's Note

The Guildhall in the City of London, England. Dating from the early 1400's it was the only stone building not belonging to the Church to have survived the Great Fire of London in 1666. It is the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London and its Corporation. The grand "Gothic" entrance seen here was added in 1788 and has been restored a few times and did not escape extensive damage to the roof during the German bombing raids of the Second World War.

Beautiful Composition. The New Buildings merging with the old stone walls on the left has been well captured. The Facade of the building is clear and there is a very fine and distinct shadow on each arched window. The Large gothic arched gateway and deep brown doorway is is elegant.
The large open yard befor it is significant - not just historically, but also photographically - since it affords the open space and balance.

Hello Brian,
I have to confess that I really don't have that many pictures of London, partly perhaps because I used to travel there on a regular basis for a good part of my working life. That is why I find your series of well conceived images so interesting. You do the lovely architecture full justice here. I like the light and shadow contrasts and the excellent detail to be observed in the beautiful façade. Well presented with very good colours and sharpness. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Brian,

This is a very fine building and you have captured it perfectly in a very fine composition. The beautiful Gothic entrance and its large doorway are placed perfectly in the frame and both the lines in the square before it and the lines of the modern buidling on the left lead us toward this lovely façade. Even the large iron post in the foreground helps hold the composition together.

Beautiful lighting with wonderful light and shade, gorgeous vibrant colours (but certainly not oversaturated), perfect exposure and exquisite detail and sharpness.

An interesting note too!

Hi Brian - Your POV not only displays this elegant building very well but also includes some good context concerning its location. Attractive areas of light and shade too, but what I really like are the fluttering colourful banners which contrast well with and add to the natural colour palette. Hi Brian,
Great to see this beautiful building survived that tragic fire, it is a fine building, and very English. The grand entranceway is like a castle on its own, even without the rest f the building behind it. This fine place has seen a lot of activity in its life, and is lucky to be here still given all that has happened around it. Really great shot of a beautiful building.
