Photographer’s Note

Back to Loughborough's November Fair and this image of a guy running a minuature wheel for smaller children - I'd like to say he's employed as an anti-smoking advert but I guess that's not true - whenever I came past though he seemed to be faggin' it - one behind his ear in case he got caught in the wrong place at the wrong moment away from his packet in the kiosk.

I guess working on the fair is a pretty healthy out door life - all that fresh air, fast food and fags....and boy do some of them have a good time in the local pubs too!

A wee break from Belfast - I'll probably put up some odd images now and again but thanks for all the support through that series - it has really helped me to think through a few things of where I want to go photographically and with writing etc. too.

p.s. I kind of like the way (to my mind) he spells the word MAN too!

I LOVE this one so much, Kev, I'm going with the FAVs right away...The bokeh is to die fot, for one, but there'S something perfect about your capture. On top of that your notes is HILARIOUS, man, trenchant, compassionate and extremely accurate down to the last details.
This is wondrous TE work.

hi kev, this is one of those stunners that you mentioned the other day about when starting the ni series, the images of a high artistic and technical value;
i simply love how you "isolated" the model from the background (an extreme bokeh);
he definitely does not belong the the anti-smoking lobby, no doubt about it (unless you run an anti-campaign, if you know what i mean);
one of my phantom favorites;

We don't do these kind of genuine men anymore since Robert Mitchum, they broke the mould.
A profile like an eagle, funny to see him over a candy pink background.

I love that pale green, golden yellow, pink area, although completely out of tune with your subject, more of a background for the humptieth take of "Over the rainbow".

Hi, Kev.

I see it also, the "M" letter spelled by his chin and the cigarette.
Actually he looks to me a bit like owl, with the light circle around his eye and his nose, a smoking owl that is. A text book portrait.
Did you consider cropping the left side of the frame, at least by the part the green sign begins?

Kev, if smoking kills, then here you captured a serial killer ;-)
Good tight composition with stunning background colors. DOF is also very good.

Fantastic shot!

I get two different emotions from looking at this image. The first is one of humour, the man with the dirty hat and a desperate smoker with two cigarettes. The other is of slight concern that this man is working with children.

The contrast of the bright and fun pink against his face being darkened in shade is also great.

A favourite for me :)

That's brilliant Kev !
What a look with the slight light on his eye, that's a goid catch ! Strange contrast betwwen his overall attitude and the pink background (=happiness), certainbly not "La vie en rose" for him. Lovely details with the 2 cigarettes.

Your combination of destitution and the vibrant, cheerful pinks, Kev, are that of a master... a wonderful shot with the tremendously sensuous bokeh and pretty colours vis-a-vis the lone man's profile with the two cigarettes
and with your great note as always

The play of light and shadow is excellent here; I like the sun just on his right eye also the dirty cap or the cigarette on his ear. Funny the pink BG.

Hi Kev,
A most effective composition. You have captured the demeanour of this chap so well, and he seems like quite a character. I like the lighting here and the shadow play on his shoulder. Interesting background colours to contrast and enhance. A superb capture, Kev. I like this very much.

This is one guy in bad need of a bath (his clothes too, LOL!). Great observation about the two cigarettes. This is truly an advertisement not to smoke, just look at him!

Very good one Kev. Just beautiful contrast. I like small shine on the face "your man". Great image. One thing- I see some subscription in the background, but is cover- one wish I really wonna know what is writing there, sorry maybe this is not important for you but for me it is. This is great image but this image can be more then great with all subscription- if you are stand with camera few steps in the left. Anyway - I like quality- really. good luck
