The Magic of Charnwood Photo

Photographer’s Note

The ancient forest of Charnwood has been part of my life for nearly thirty years now and like most locals I know my way around it like the back of my hand. Now the eastern edge of the New National Forest this ancient landscape with it's nearby settlements of the pre-Roman occupation spans an interesting history all the way to being a holding post for a US Airborne Division prior the invasion of Europe in 1944.

....>.>but it's not just the ghosts of history which haunt this landscape it's also the sheer beauty and mythical quality of encountering its changing seasons, light, rock formations and flora and fauna. So lucky to have this literally just up the road from where i live.

Hi Kev,
Seems like a great place to be, at least you caught a great mood with the light that is coming straight in. Hitting the leaves gave you a nice warm colour on that part, but also lots of detail to the far left through the trees...i am impressed what the good old 10D did on this job.
Thinking of cropping out a part on the right? It is not in the light and does not really take part in the overal composition...any thoughts about that?
Anyway, a nice and very good exposed image.

Wonderfull forest scenery. Very good pov and nice effect with the light beams through the wood.
As if a scene from one of the Harry Potter films.

This is sheer poetry. I can only imagine seeing this largely printed in a wall. It's so beautiful. Love your blacks and the door into the light. A revelation.

Beautiful, moody, mystical and magical image of this ancient forest. I expect Merlin the magician to walk into the frame with his bag of tricks. Perfect exposure on this tough, high contrast lighting. Your English forests are beautiful and I hope to see more of them in the future. Wonderfully creative image!

The ray of sun that you captured between the trees it's really nice, I like specially the way this light focus on the leaves in the ground. Great atmosphere the one you show.

having the nickname Merline I sure enjoy this enchanted bit of forest. Joke apart, it is so fine tuned this image, I do find the composition elegant, with the few birches in the foreground like posing for you, so many details visible even in the darker areas, that wondrous light. Great technical and poetical work...I am enchanted...

Hello Kev,the light is amazing!It really gives the picture a magical quality, and yes it is a very beautiful place.I love the way that the sun picks out the texture of the tree trunk and the colour of the fallen leaves.
