Good Morning Everyone,
This is a view into the panopticon, a strange feature which has been situated on the hill top above Wycoller, on a day which was quite misty, with occasional breaks in the clouds.
It is a dome shaped sculpture, with holes around it, intended to give views from every angle around the countryside and, as far as I know, quite unique. Locally, it is called The Mighty Atom!
As you can see, we have had a lot of rain!!! The sculpture allows rain in, but there is no facility to allow the rain out! Consequently, we have a mini bathing pool! I have never seen it so wet before!!
I will add an Internet link here which shows the exterior of the panopticon and explains a lot about it. It also gives grid references and a video.
Have a lovely day,

A very strange object indeed. Stranger still, having no means of drainage! The person in the blue top is a plus here, bringing the scene to life and creating a feeling of depth.

strange that this unusual sculpture has no drainage system. Nevertheless it makes for an interesting shot. Lots of intrigue here in this original and fascinating composition. What happened to the ball? Victim of the storms? Looks like only the stump remains.
Have a good week - B.

You have used these holes, the views through them, and the reflections of the light well for a nice composition. This is an original work of art in an unexpected place, but was it intended to keep the water inside, or is this just an "Ooops, we didn't think of that" kind of thing?

A very interesting construction, very artistically made. It reminds me a bit of a sculpture/plaything we have here in Gothenburg. I have taken this picture of that one. But this looks much bigger and much stranger. A very interesting picture.

Good evening Beverly,
The flooded panopticon gave a unique opportunity to take such a photo, with a reflection of its round-shaped "windows", and also a sunlight mirror from the water upon the wall. The man going away added fine scale and dynamic scale on.

An unusual feature, and your frame-filling composition creates plenty of graphical, visual interest. I'm glad there's a figure in the shot: it looks as if you just grabbed it before he disappeared.

Ah, ha, you've shown us this panopticon before - I remember that! But never have I seen a picture of it full of water. And, in the distance, walking away up the path, is that a crazy swimmer who has just been in for his morning dip? :o)
You did well to manage the exposure here so well because the panopticon must be quite dark inside compared to the brightness outside it. And, in the small confines available, you have managed a good composition too.
An excellent "reportage" shot and another reminder of this interesting structure. I liked your link too - it was nice to see how it was contructed - with layers of concrete applied over a sort of mesh former.
P.S. Next time you go up here, ask Len to lend you a brace and bit to bore a hole in the bottom to let the water out. :o)

una foto molto originale, uno scatto fatto con intuito e prontezza.
Colpisce per la sua particolare composizione, l'uomo attira l'attenzione attraverso questi buchi enormi.

I followed the link you provided and liked what I saw. It's a shame that the steel sphere has been stolen, we can see the stump in your photo. It would have provided additional wonderful reflections in your photo. You certainly caught this in a unique state, I doubt the artist anticipated its use as a cistern. The gentleman walking away certainly adds some dynamism and symbolism to your photo. Very well done, TFS!
