Good Morning Everyone,
Something a little different, today.
WE don't get a big range of butterflies in the garden but tortoiseshells, like this one, appear when the herbs are flowering, when the buddleia is in flower and when the plums are ripe.
It is sad that butterflies have seriously declined in recent years due partly to lack of meadowland and the use of chemicals. Farmers are now being encouraged to leave strips of meadowland between their fields and reduce the use of chemicals. The results, to date, seem very positive.
Have a lovely day Bev :-)

I am always totally fascinated by these graceful and beautiful butterflies. I have a huge purple flowering buddleia in my back garden and just love to sit and watch them. Not easy to capture and I have to admit always admire people who manage to get them so clearly. This is a real beauty of a shot! Superb!
Enjoy the weekend - B.
Scorching down here again after last night's lightning display and downpour. Humidity levels scrambling my brain though. B.

J'aime beaucoup cette composition pleine de fleurs et de couleurs. Le papillon me semble bien poilu.Tu as choisi un beau cadrage serré et la netteté des détails est impeccable.

Hello, yes something different indeed and a very fine close up of the butterfly.
Excellent color and sharpness. A bit of nature that one sees helps remind us of our surroundings and to stop and smell the flowers. We live on such a beautiful planet.

My favourite species, and one little creature that our islands share. This would be our most common one and it is a beauty. You got a fine angle on this guy, he looks like a plane about to hit the power and launch into the air, not something about the flutter away!
Did you ever think that these would be more aptly named Flutter By rather than Butterfly?
Have a great weekend, and thanks for a smile on the thoughts of strips of meadow creating a butterfly haven, its not something being done here.

A charming composition perfectly timed. The flowers are displayed beautifully with perfect sharpness to highlight the tortoiseshell which makes a nice visual impact due to its colours and its position in the frame. The blurred background is perfect for this picture.
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Yes, I don't think we see so many butterflies around these days as we used to in the past but this is a lovely photograph of a very pretty one - was this taken in your own garden? It reminds me that I really should blow the dust off my macro lens and get out looking for subjects like this again!
A very nicely composed shot with lovely light and fine natural colours, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness exactly where it matters - on the whole body and the lovely wings and antennae of this pretty creature - while the background and surrounding flowers are nicely out of focus.

Bev, Silvio has taught me so much about butterflies and their natural environment but this specie I never saw before..a nice close up and a very attractive butterfly and as you, I wish that they could save this wonderful and important insect-moth because is not only beautiful but also very useful to our nature!!

a fine photojob done with the butterfly fantastic colors and its contrast to white and green.
*** I do not use PS, and left the flost in fg deliberately for better scale.

A delightful shot, well seen and well caught. Having been to a butterfly farm, I'm well aware as to how difficult they are to photograph. Beautiful colours, a magical light and excellent shallow depth of field.

a butterfly in your gallery :)
you know what stands out?
its the orange colors that totally dominant and work as a focal point, it caught my attention right away.
the white is a sweet sweet contrast for that orange.
go butterflies go! come back!
