Good Morning Everyone,
It had been a sunny day, one of the few from early 2014, and as I was returning home, the sky created this amazing spectacle. I included just a small silhouette of the village as a reference.
Eddie Cochrane's 'Three Steps to Heaven' entered my mind. If you are unfamiliar with the song give it a try.
I hope you enjoy it.
Have a great day, Bev :-)

very nice the moody sky of the day with the colour tints to make the scene even more effective. The beams that penetrates the heavy clouds, are captured and presented perfect.Well done.
Have a good weekend,Danos

The sun rays breaking through the clouds has created a wonderful almost heavenly effect. Like the sun rays marking their way through the heavily overcast sky as they make their way to Earth. Good idea to include the silhouetted village over the horizon. The cloud formations in the BG are attractive too. Nice shot with natural colours and light. Thanks for sharing.

I remember Three Steps to Heaven very well indeed along with some of his others like Summertime Blues. It certainly makes a fitting title for this little gem. Perfectly exposed and with a great atmosphere. Thanks for sharing. Back to the sunshine and showers here; we are off to Paris next week, looks like rain every day, just hope I can get some photography in between the inevitable stops in the bars:-)

yes, as a child and even now at the age of 38, I still look at those beams of light streaking through the clouds as beams of light from heaven!
i always thought it meant that souls are being taken up into the clouds :)
Love how the cloud is so dark on the under side, yet there is still so much light and brightness.
smart idea to have the landscape on the bottom as a point of reference.

always stand in awe when the heavens stream light down like this. It is uplifting spiritually and makes for wonderful imagery, as this fine shot demonstrates. Like the song analogy too, but I am now humming Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven..............
Have a great weekend - B.

Si tu voulais nous montrer le temps gris et déprimant de la fin de l'hiver, c'est très réussi. J'aime les traits de lumière qui tentent de percer la couche nuageuse.

you make me laught when you wrote "it had been a sunny day!!!" Big clouds are coming back (storm in Bordeaux today too, lot of rain and wind) creating a dramatic feeling, pressing on the earth and pushing it outside of your shot.
have a nice WE
By the way, I know Eddie Cochran (I think only people of our age understand) but not this song

A very fine and artistic picture. Of course I remember the song, I heard it daily when I worked at the ICI laboratory in Blackley during the summer of 1960. He had just died then, but his music remains.

You know when I was a child, I used to think these rays were escalators to heaven, opening up now and then to ferry the dead to the next world :)
A beautiful scene, and the colors in the sky are like a painters dream, such soft tones of purple and gold. A regal sky which could not be a better way against which to present this stairway to heaven! Lovely capture, and the silhouette is a great idea showing how ginormous these rays are.
All the best

this sky was indeed spectacular and deserved so much space in your composition. The tiny bit of land with some miniature houses adds nice contrast and creates good point of reference.
All the colors, although muted are very pretty and go well with the character of the picture. The light has been managed masterly.
Thanks for sharing

Good morning Beverly,
Nice idea to listen to the song while writing this critique. The song is cheerfull, and make the view of the cloudy sky easier to perceive...
Anyway, I like the hilltop's silhouette included, gave scale and distance to the "falling" sunrays.
well collected on the way home, when i go home from work, all I see is urban neighbourhoods.
Enjoy a nice weekend,

I like the way you minimized the landscape, and focused on the sunburst effect. I also listened to Eddie Cochran's "Three Steps to Heaven" in a second window while savoring the view you shared with us.
In a search of Wikipedia, I found the following:
"On Saturday, April 16, 1960, at about 11.50 p.m., while on tour in the United Kingdom, 21-year-old Cochran died as a result of a traffic accident in a taxi... The speeding taxi blew a tire, lost control, and crashed into a lamp post on Rowden Hill, where a plaque now marks the spot."
So, he will remain forever young.
Have a good weekend,

I first thought to myself "O.K., three steps to heaven..easy enough" and then I listened to the song and realized...I'm still single, those steps are way too far away from being reached at this point in time. :( haha
My dumb humor aside, this is an absolutely angelic shot! The subtle rays of light beaming from the clouds are beckoning an atmosphere that's both electric and calm. Don't ask how that makes any sense, it just does in my mind. :) Brilliant idea to include the silhouetted countryside along the bottom of the frame, giving this scene a reaching point and context. The purplish hue also gives this added effect, beautifully enticing imagery. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Take good care.

So simple but so beautiful! The light beams make this photo I think, also the very high composition.

Bev, your picture is beautiful and I wish that I could take these three steps in heaven so I can see again all my loved ones...

I didn't make it to "Jigsaw Buildings" today, as I side tracked to haven. A gentle, dreamy scene which is almost monochrome, but I like that you decided to retain the soft hues. The inclusion of the village, yet at a minimal level, was also a great idea. Gorgeous.
