Good Morning Everyone,
Yesterday, I went with a friend to see 'The King and I' at the Lowry Theatre on Salford Quays, Manchester.
I have been to Salford Quays before but always by car so have never walked along the embankment to the foot bridge. I just could not believe how beautiful the modern architecture appeared from this direction.
I was not prepared to take photographs but, luckily, had my small casio in my handbag so was able to get this shot. The camera does not have the depth of my Nikon but I was still pleased with the result.
I have sharpened, burnt and dodged for a slightly better result.
This is a place I will have to revist with photography in mind!
Thank you for for stopping by, Bev :-)

Excellent graphism & linear perspective. Natural looking colour with with subtle warm cold color contrasts between the yellow red façade of the highrise building & the blue sky & water. Nice symmetrical reflections also. Have a great weekend!

I can see why you wish to re-visit this location Bev - lots of possibilities with the bridges and lovely reflections. I think you have managed an excellent composition with your little casio. OK the quality is not what we are used to from your hand but a good shot which ticks the compositional boxes none-the-less. Warm regards Rosemary
PS. How was the show?

Sometimes we don't take camera along - and suddenly we see an opportunity that we don't want to miss...
Yet, your casio made a fairly good image, reflection and light with good clearity.
just the wraf seems with no businesses and people in sight.
Enjoy your friday,

a text book composition and full of wonderful lines and shapes. Subtle light which actually enhances the atmosphere here. An good example of how modern architecture can be attractive to the eye if in the right setting.
Have a great weekend - Brian.

Casio, Nikon, it's the same success of your expertise. The point of view and framing are artfully chosen. The light, colors and sharpness are good. Bravo.
Have a nice day

Le regard suit naturellement le garde fou dans l'image, ce qui lui donne une très belle profondeur. La perspective est belle sur le Manchester moderne.

Yes, sometime I wonder why I should be troubled lugging around a bulky, cumbersome and heavy DSLR when others take what seem to be quite splendid pictures with their mobile 'phones or little cheap compact cameras.
And this is a fine photograph too with all the elements of fine composition we have come to associate with your work. Lovely lighting too and, of course (and because of the tiny sensor too), wonderful depth of field.
But I have to agree: although it is a very fine photograph, I know (as do you) that had you had your Nikon with you yesterday this picture would not have been good but exceptional!
But this still remains the work of a master - pretty much like listening to Yehudi Menuhin playing an old cigar box rather than his Stradivari violin - the expertise and the talent are all there even if the instrument is second best - if you know what I mean!

A well composed picture with the black railing perfectly anchored at the corner and making a good diagonal through the picture. Fine reflections of the interesting architecture. This is definitely not the Manchester I saw, when I had my first summer job there, in 1960. The whole city was black from all the soot, this is quite a change from those days.

I agree, it is a magic atmosphere that you have captured here despite the difficult conditions you are describing in your nice note. The light is fantastic! My compliments!

Very nice image of this modern part of town, fantastic reflections that give beauty to the image, I like the diagonal cut of the rail, which also adds a good DOF to the composition.
Very nice these soft colors with good lighting.
Enjoy a happy weekend.

Si je comprends bien, tu fais des repérages avec ton compact. Le lieu mérite une nouvelle visite...avec Nikon cette fois!

That is a great picture that really captures the beauty of Modern Manchester. Your perspective is amazing to enhance the depth and leads the viewer to the charming architecture. The reflections are very nice too. Although technically this photo is very good, I think a revisit with your Nikon will highly pay in return. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes,

yes, this place deserves more attention, go back again and catch those water reflections in a horizontal compo in a sweet golden light - if you can.
I'm not going to knock you for the quality as its taken from a pocket camera.
love the compo, light, reflections, depth and use of the rail.
bertolucci (13356) 2012-02-25 10:42
A lovely riverside scene with a nice perspective and the buildings forming a rhythmic geometric arrangement.
It seems the little Casio focused on the barrier which adds depth to the compo. The best cam is the one you have with you :-)
Have a fine weekend,
