Photographer's Note
Hello Everyone,
My husband and I went to Irwell Valley where the steam trains run regularly. After photographing the approaching train, we boarded a steam train and journeyed to Bury Station.
It was a steam addicts paradise!
Everywhere, there were steam engines puffing and steaming!
Some fans were photographing, some were mesmerised, some thought they had gone to Heaven; there was certainly a lot of passion on show that day!
The train in my shot is The Duke of Gloucester. It was puffing and billowing, ready to go! If you would like to know more about this fine steam engine, click here for all its history and news.
Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this steam train and learning about its history, Bev :-)

Good Evening Bev - Nostalgic and quite lovely. The passion with which aficionados drool over these magnificent beasts and spend their free time up to their eyes in coal, steam, smoke and heat shows dedication. A fine shot where the brilliant red brings the shot to life. I love the puffs of steam around the wheels. I can hear the whistle blowing and the chuff chuff as the engine leaves the station! Warm regards Rosemary

Oh, Bev! What a picture! And what a subject!
A magnificent photograph of 71000, risen like a Phoenix against all odds and here seen in all her wondrous glory! A true testament to all who worked on the restoration and not only gave this fabulous machine another lease of life but also addressed several original design faults which reduced her originally planned performance. So now she runs better than she ever did and, ironically, she is now more powerful than the English Electric Type 4 diesel locomotives which replaced her in service!
But, oh, so sorry Bev, I digress. Your photograph is wonderful: perfectly composed and with the added human interest of spell-bound onlookers who also help give an impression of scale here. Glorious colours, good lighting and exceptional detail and sharpness.
Did this locomotive pull the train you boarded? And did you get any more pictures of her?
Absolutely Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hello Bev,
You have presented here a nostalgic steam train from a great point view. It's nice to see these good old machines are preserved well and still working. I'm sure children love to see them at work. I liked all the details about this composition, colors, sharpness, clarity and the vertical format. The smokes looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. Have a good evening.

Hello Bev,
Lots of nostalgia here. A super close crop so that we can see all the detail on this old engine. The splash of red against the steely greys just adds that extra bit of 'punch'. Excellent.
Best wishes, Ann

Hi Beverly,
A most impressive machine still in use (something we do not have in Israel), taken POV show it's front, convey a very "massive" appearence.
Fine shot on the "bow", people gathered just minutes before an amazing ride, i suppose.
Cheers,
Ike

Hi Beverley.
A fascinating picture of this old and beautiful engine, vertical composition with the diagonal of the rails, the machine and part of the station is ideal, the presence of people give a touch of vibrancy to the image.
A superb sharpness, to delight in every detail, very natural color in this image is appreciated.
A great job, I like.
Have a great evening.
All the best.
Luis.

Hi Beverley
They used to have old steam trains like this on the suburban rail network in Brisbane in the 1960's & early 1970's when I was a kid/teenager, before switching to diesel & then electric. Brings back memories. Good sharpness & excellent colour & saturation. The diagonal rails add dynamism. Tfs!

Hello Beverley
it's amazing to look at these old locomotives, the result of the man's expertise, created and built without the computers. Clever shot which restitute the atmosphere of the fifties.

Hi dear Bev
I think I know someone here who would be dead chuffed (excuse the pun) with this train shot. He lives slightly north of the border over there. It really is a passion eh? Love the vertical frame, the vivid colours and the inclusion of the people to give us a sense of scale.
TFS, and I wish you a happy Sunday

Hi Bev,
These old steam engines are indeed very beautiful. The red "front" really brightens up the picture and I like the inclusion of the men around. I get a feeling they were all train-spotters when they were children.
Kind regards
Gunnar
