One in a series of photographs take on a warm and pleasant autumn afternoon in the grounds of Leeds Castle, regarded by many as one of the most beautiful in Britain.

Today, a pair of black swans, part of the extensive wildfowl and bird population that resides in the grounds of the castle.

Some information from Wikipedea about black swans:

The Black Swan, Cygnus atratus, is a large waterbird which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. They are mostly black feathered, with a line of white flight feathers of the wing edges that sometimes show when at rest, and are conspicuous in flight. The bill is bright red, with a pale bar and tip; and legs and feet are greyish-black. Cobs (males) are slightly larger than pens (females), with a longer and straighter bill. Cygnets (immature birds) are a greyish-brown with pale-edged feathers.

A mature Black Swan measures between 1.1 and 1.4 metres in length and weighs 6-9 kg. Its wing span, in flight, is between 1.6 and 2 metres. The neck is long (relatively the longest neck among the swans) and curved in an "S".

The Black Swan utters a musical and far reaching bugle-like sound, called either on the water or in flight, as well as a range of softer crooning notes. It can also whistle, especially when disturbed while breeding and nesting.

The Black Swan is unlike any other Australian bird, although in poor light and at long range it may be confused with a magpie-goose in flight. However the Black Swan can be distinguished by its much longer neck and slower wing beat.

Ils font leur petite toilette matinale, je n'avais jamis vue de cette sorte, ils sont mangigique, blanc et noir avec une beau be rouge, superbe.

Bonjour, cher Stephen,
La beauté des cygnes est toujours remarquable, ils sont très pointilleux quant à leur toilette. La posture réalisée le montre bien ! il paraît que le chant des cygnes s'entend pas des sifflements et des bruits de trompette !
Très bon cadrage avec un joli reflet dans l'eau calme.

I could feel the movement of swans, so crystal clear with sharp colours.
Is black swans also known as Queen's bird? I heard White swans known as Queen's bird. I have seen that there are numbers for each bird in Worcester in River Severn. i have posted a photo of swans few days ago.

Les nettetés et couleurs des plumages sont étonnantes. Je n'avais jamais vu de cygnes noirs, ils sont vraiment magnifiques. La réflection complète ce très bon travail. Bravo.

very nice "Daily Life" moment of swans cleaning themselves. And that they are black ones is a good add on. Or from the opposite, good capture of two black swans and a fine moment of having them in their daily cleaning. :-)

Very beautiful birds those swans. they look funny with white parts of the wings. Beautiful light that makes the feathers look stunning. In Patagonia live the swans white with the black neck.
