Walmer Castle is a castle at Walmer in Kent, England, built by Henry VIII in 1539–1540 as an artillery fortress to counter the threat of invasion from Catholic France and Spain. It was part of his programme to create a chain of coastal defences along England's coast known as the Device Forts or as Henrician Castles. It was one of three forts constructed to defend the Downs, an area of safe anchorage protected by the Goodwin Sands, in Kent, southeast England.
At the centre of Walmer Castle is a circular keep, surrounded by an open courtyard and protected by a concentric wall, from which four, squat, semi-circular bastions project. The northern bastion forms the gatehouse and would have had a gun on its roof; the other bastions would have had guns mounted inside them and on the roof. The central keep would also have had guns mounted on its roof giving the castle the capacity to mount 39 guns. A gallery running around the castle at basement level has 32 loops for hand-guns covering the moat.

You seem to have had very good weather for your visit to the South Coast. I like the point of view and oblique perspective on the castle. Your composition has a pleasing balance to it with a nicely proportioned division between architecture and landscape. The image is agreeably lit and has good colours and sharpness. Very good rendering of the textural detail in the walls.

J'aime beaucoup les châteaux. Je m'arrange toujours pour les voir et les visiter lors de mes voyages.Celui-ci est très beau et on réalise qu'il est anglais au premier coup d'oeil.

First of all I want to say this is your 222nd post on this site. ;) Excellent presentation of the Walmer Castle, the note is short but very informative, good illustration. I like this contrast of the ancient grey walls with clear blue sky and the green plants.
Have a great WE!

A lovely presentation of this castle. Great colours, details, and framing. Despite its origin, it seems to be a very peaceful place nowadays. Thank you for sharing the scene with us.
Have a great weekend,

You have written a very interesting and informative note and provided us with a fine photograph to illustrate it.
Your composition is excellent and the colours are delightful. You have managed the strong sunlight very well indeed but to me I thought the picture looked just a tad pale and that some of the brightest parts of the image appeared just a little "blown out". I'm not sure if it's any help or not, but I've done a very quick workshop to try to go some way to correct that. I really hope you don't mind! Anyway, see what you think - and I shall not be at all offended if you don't like it! :o)
Otherwise, a lovely photograph!

Such different architecture to those of Croatia in your Gallery. But equally beautiful The stonework is impressive and imposing and I just love the mixed colours and textures of the garden.
Warmest wishes and thanks for sharing
