Photographer’s Note
This attractive thatched cottage stands in the New Forest in Hampshire. It also has a very elaborate thatched lych gate, a structure more usually found at the entrance to a churchyard.
Taken as JPEG: PP in Picasa3, FastStone and PhotoShop 7.
Click on Map:[view] to see the aerial picture from Google Earth. The cottage stands just to the north of the road, and can be seen quite clearly.
PS: I've posted the original un-PPed image as a WS.
More details on the PP can be read in my reply to John [tyro].

Hello, Peter.
Another beautiful shot taken with your trusty old Canon compact camera.
A very fine and well-balanced composition with your beloved diagonals, the most powerful ones being the edge of the near roadway and the bright green grass in the foreground. Then the eye is taken to the beautiful cottage with its wonderfully decorated thatched roof, its pattern perfectly echoed in the roof of the lych gate to the left. And, at the junction of the middle and lefthand thirds, right between these two structures, is that fabulous weeping willow.
The colours are well-saturated but not overdone - colours which, in my opinion are somewhat better than those from your Fujifilm camera. The exposure is spot-on and the sharpness is just incredible: on my monitor I swear I can see every pane of glass in that leaded window of the cottage.
Fabulous!
Thank you for this one, Peter.
Best Wishes,
John.

Hi Peter,
A very fine picture with a very clear diagonal line! But the most interesting part of this photo is probably the detailed discussion around the PP work with John and the fact that you have included the original photo as a WS. Post processing is certainly a major part of making pictures and I wish there were more information, like here, on more pictures on TE. And I also like this very typical English view, I guess there is a cosy pub not far away...
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hello Peter,
another huggable house.I am sure you have posted this one just for me. As a child I would drool over such places as depicted on chocolate boxes and daydream about living there.Perfectly exposed with nice colours and even a little bit of blue in the sky.
