Near Oliver's Battery Photo

Photographer’s Note

This scene is just outside the city of Winchester near Oliver's Battery which gets its name from the civil war in 1645. Oliver Cromwell stationed his battery of guns on the hill here as a good firing position during the siege of Winchester. Winchester surrendered to Cromwell on the 6th of October after only two days.

Hey Simon,
this is a really moody photo, the sky is fabulous as is the sharpness. You can almost imagine Cromwell's army gathering in those fields.......excellent shot!.TFS.

Hey Simon, man you can feel the storm coming up with this shot. Those clouds are very well done. Those, with the overall dark tone of the shot really give it life. The sun trying to get through and the lone bush in the centre right provide very good contrast.
