Photographer’s Note
A short series of pictures in tribute to Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), which after almost 40 years service at sea has been recently retired to become a luxury hotel in Dubai.
All pictures were taken on slide film and have been converted to digital using Photoshop and NeatImage. The pictures were taken at a time I was working as an Internal Auditor for the company that then owned Cunard Line. I used to visit the company's ships, including QE2, on business from time to time.
This last picture shows her in dry-dock in Southampton (her home port) after her return from the Falklands' conflict where she served as a hospital ship along with her long term 'rival', the P & O cruise liner 'Canberra'.
Wikipedea has an interesting article on the history of the ship, which was built for the Cunard Line at the John Brown Shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland. The article can be accessed here.

Bonjour Stephen,

Charo

Hello Stephen,
Aside from the informative and very interesting note, the photograph itself is remarkable, specially when the Liliputians at the lower right come into focus. The scale of the ship is extraordinary — so its fate will be a hotel Much like Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. Your personal connection to the site is most interesting.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Stephen,
Wonderful view of the immense hull of this giant ocean linner.
Striking details and sharpness.
The shipyard workers give this one nice scale.
Regards, Tom
