This was one of the first images I took after arriving home from Canada. After visiting such spectacular landscapes I always struggle at first to find inspiration back home. I took this image back in November and left it unprocessed until today. Now I actually quite like it!

I love photographing the New Forest on frosty mornings, but sometimes the mass of frosty heather can make foregrounds too bland. So when I found this young conifer sapling I was drawn to its colour, particularly with the low sun lighting it up.

What Im not so keen about is the bush that creeps into the left hand side of the horizon. I took a second shot which was more cropped in and so didnt feature the bush, but that also cropped in slightly on the sapling, and so, for better or worse I decided to stick with this shot and the bush.

hye adam

congratulation for all your photo

Hi Adam

I like the wee bush, I think, if it wasn't there, it would have been a lovely shot as well with that path bringing the foreground into perspective.. but the wee green bush, I like, as it breaks up all that soft purple with a nice soft green which complements it.

Hi Adam
I love it! i think maybe you are a bit to self critic, because this is simply stunning.
The bush doesn't matter, and the sapling in the foreground is what really makes this shot.
Perfectly exposed and with wonderful colors.
Harry

Hello Adam!
Lovely compositon with great colours, light and sharpness! Good perspective!

Hi Adam.
It seems like your trip to Canada has given you inspiration, loads of it!!
The colors are truely beutiful. So is the way this picture has been composed.
It gives me great pleasure to watch pictures like this.

A beautiful landscape shot!

The sky is rich and the foreground is made so much more interesting by the great light and frosty appearance.

I see what you mean about the bush to the left but it certainly doesn't distract and make this anything other than a fabulous photograph. Thanks for sharing
John

Beatifull shot Adam.
I think I must revise my judgements because of incompetencies of digital chips. This here is really rich of colours and much detail in dark areas. I'm really impressed.

Hi Adam,
wonderful colors in your capture from the sky down ti the bushes and trees. The light is gliding over all these colors. It is just a beautiful one and I think Andrew (Focaccino) is right about the bush.
Regards, Ulf

As always great work. Thanks for the insightful note.

Rich range of colors & saturation. No problem with the bush on the top left at all. Beautiful composition with frosty heather. i wonder if you had used a fill in flash. latiff

Une image sublime, Adam!
Félicitations

Hi Adam. This is a really terrific shot, and as you may know I added you to my list of fave photographers some time ago. I have not really had anything to say because they are all flawlessly composed, lit, and colored. I am nowhere near the level of quality you are on landscapes, but if you will permit me, I will tell you my thoughts.
-I see what you mean about the distant bush in the LH side of frame. The darkness of it draws the eye and distracts, even though it is so small. The only way to have avoided this was to have changed your vantage point -physically moved backwards from the sapling a couple of feet, then to the left just a bit to open up the field of view, then adjusted and zoomed to leave ot out of frame. No photo is absolutely perfect...but even if it isn't they are still so wonderful to see. I love the frosty scene and early morning mood you captured. I wanted to be in that place, and the shot took me there. That is what matters most I feel. All that lacked was the cold air and smell of bracken and heath in my nostrils. I remain as ever,an admirer of your work and talent.

A beautiful shot, the trees act as a focal point in the shot, but there's plenty of detail in the foreground & the sky looks brilliant with those sunrise colours. well done.

What I admire about your work, Adam, is the way in which you manage the light. So often when I look at your thumbnails, the image looks under-exposed, but when I open full frame, there is sufficient detail in the shadow areas and the colours are superb - you are one photographer who definitely doesn't use auto exposure! Cheers . . . David

PS: Is this what the New Forest looks like today? When I was a kid growing up in Fareham, all I remember of the New Forest was trees. Have they chopped them all down?

Hi Adam,

Nice landscape. I like particularly its colors and the effect of the frosty on the vegetation. A nice one, congratulations !

Christophe

Excellent work, Adam. I know what you mean about coming home but on the other hand there are so many things to be seen just in the back yard. Maybe it is also a certain sadness that a trip has come to an end. You "beat" the frost super well ... this is such wonderful photo. Take care, Barbara.

Yes, it's hard to find inspiration at home, you know all the sights so well, you almost can't see them really.
I like the detailed frost in the foreground.
Seb

With or without the bush, doesn't matter.
To me what matters here are the beautiful layers of color, starting with the frozen tones at the bottom and going up 'til the warm blues of the sky...
I love it!
