The Location

This is a small Norman church near Ampney St. Marys. I made another image of this wonderful building in Autumn 2006 that is posted here.

The Image

I have waited for two winters to try to get an image of this church covered in snow to no avail. This past Sunday I awoke to quite an unexpected blanket of snow and immediately headed here. This was not quite what I envisioned in a 'winter shot' but I really enjoy the snow-covered Daffodils in the foreground. I guess it is somewhat of a hybrid...

I had to bump up the ISO to counter the flowers moving in a slight breeze.

Cheers!

Bob G.

Hi Bob,
You are not alone with your late snows this Spring. It is snowing in Denver right now and we have had about 3" of wet, sloppy snow so far today (still beats a drought, though!). It has snowed several times that I can remember in Denver around my birthday (May 23rd) and it has snowed every month of the year in Denver, except for July. Even though I don't have the same warm spring feeling that I would have had with nicer weather, your rendition with the late snowfall makes this shot more interesting, in my opinion, and a much more unusual image as well. This is up to your usual level of excellent landscape photography and I believe that this unusual spring scene may come in handy on some later date for a magazine article or photo contest. Excellent work!

Hello Bob!
What a lovely spring-winter picture!!! ;)
Great detail and wonderful colours!
Perfect clarity!
Best regards!

Bob,

Thanks very much for providing a link back to your earlier shot of this church. It's quite exciting, I think, to see shots taken from pretty much the same place, of the same subject, under such different conditions. Of course, it helps a great deal when the shots in question are also excellent in their own right - as are they both. Well paired.

Regards
Colin

Hi Bob,
I love the snow covered Daffodils. They make for a beautiful FG for this lovely church. This looks to be a Hallmark Card... ;-)
Nicely done.

Wow, I like this one a lot! The snow on the flowers is a very unusual and striking image. The church in the background adds a strong element there, and makes this a very good image. Beautiful work!

Hello Bob,

Hello Bob,

Spring flowers in the snow, but a wonderful picture, great composition and splendid colours, the daffodils get an winter coat.
Also your autumn picture is very lovely, pleasant for look it.
Canon 5D is a very good camera, F/22 1/4 sec gives a excellent image.
Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Bob,

It was worth the wait, eh? Daffodils in the snow in April in England - unusual to say the least, but a wonderful composition, up to your great benchmark standards.

Best wishes,
Jeff

Hello Bob!
Its a very nice capture, with nice proportions between the foreground and background subjects. I like a lot the architecture and the rock's textures. The flowers adding colour to the cold scenery is something magic. TFS!

Zeca

great composition Bob ,love the foreground leading through the shot ,nice eye pleasure

Hello Bob -

Even though this is a dull looking and unspring like composition it is a very nice image. I like the snow covered flowers in FG - the yellow/orange contrasts well with the snow. The church though is another story - it is such a peaceful scene and screams "English Countryside." This is a top notch image.

Thank for sharing.

John

Bob,
that is real endurance! Waiting for 2 years to get this image is the right example for me of how to manage a well crafted image that has alot of expression. The hybrid result is great and makes it even more expressive than you previous post showing us the same scene in autumn.
Technically the shot is perfect and there is nothing to be added to that.
Peter
