Photographer’s Note

This is the Parish Church of St. John the Baptist, located on the Market Square in Cirencester. A Christian church has been located on this site since about the 9th century. This building, I believe, dates back to the 12th century.

I made my initial trip to Cirencester, England, in the spring of 1989 for a technical writing internship my father had arranged through a colleague. The town, located approximately 100 miles west of London in an area known as the Cotswolds, immediately captured my imagination and stole my heart.

I still remember when, during my first walk through Ciren, I came upon St. John the Baptist Parish Church. It was an unexpected and delightful sight. The tower supported by flying buttresses. The ornate naves. I'd seen such buildings in photographs but never before in real life.
