Photographer’s Note

Hello everyone, another visit to Saffron Walden.I was spoilt for choice in this Essex town;there were so many old buildings, full of charm. If only the walls could speak! What an interesting history they could recount.

This house is on the side of the main road as you leave/enter the town.I just liked it for the colours and the design of the brickwork.

I had a comment on my last shot from here about the name of the town.Saffron crocuses were grown here, starting about the late 1300s.The town was at that time called Walden. The saffron crocus was very important and by the early 1500s, it was the centre of the saffron industry in this country.Such was its importance that the town adopted the name of Saffron Walden and its legacy is reflected in the wealth of timber framed buildings of this time.
Saffron was used as a dye and a medicine.

Thanks for looking.
