| I took this shot last night of the sunset from the middle of a field near my home in the Notleys of Essex. I was racing down the backroads towards the coastline to try and get some shots of the sun setting across the calm waters of the estuary, but due to traffic congestion on the roads I was running too late. I knew I would not make it in time to set up, so disappointed, I abandoned the idea. On my drive back home the light conditions changed yet again, to create wonderful layers of vibrant orange, soft reds, and light purples and blues reflected off a cloud ceiling in the evening sky....I collected my thoughts and quickly pulled in to an old disused farm lane beside a field next to the old parish church in Black Notley. I grabbed my gear and ran across the field to set up. The light kept changing, getting even prettier...and for the very first time I used my new tripod (I received it two weeks ago as a birthday gift from my family in America.) For the sake of time, I tried using different settings on the camera to find out which one recorded the colors best. Some picked up more red than blue...this one recorded a good balance of both and is as close to how it actually looked as one can get. I also wanted to use the dark silhouettes of the church steeple and trees in the lower third of the frame as a reference to show the layered colors from the horizon upwards. This photo is the original unaltered image(with exception of sharpening)and is exactly as I photographed it. I really enjoyed taking these shots. Hope you like it. |

Hello Chris -
This is a nice image and I like your idea of a church silhouette it works well. But, I think you just a touch of detail in the foreground while maintaining the idea of the silhouette. I like the pastel colors of sky. It seems you don't allow workshops, so the one I prepared which lightens up the grassy meadow in front of the church but maintains the silhouette can not be posted.
